Windows 10: Setting up a new laptop with an existing account and doesn't recognize my phone or email...

Trying to set up new laptop, I am currently logged onto microsoft on old laptop. It says it doesn't recognize my email address or phone number associated with this account. So I can't finish setting up my laptop because of this

How can I un-link my current Microsoft account that is tagged to my Windows activation license and link it to a new Microsoft account?

You don't make a new account & try to move your entitlements to it, you change the email address associated with the original account.

I want to use a different email address or phone number to sign in

You can use any email address or phone number you have listed as a
username to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you want to sign in
with a specific one or change the one you're signing in with, here's
how:

Sign in to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft with your Microsoft account. If you’re having issues signing in to your
Microsoft account, go to Microsoft account help.

Note You may be prompted to enter your Microsoft account password, or
to enter a code sent to the email address or phone number listed in
your account's security information. By providing this info to us, we
know the request is coming from you.

If you want to use an existing email address or phone number, go to step 6. If you're adding a new email address or phone number, go to
step 3.

If you selected Add a phone number, go to step 5. If you selected Add email, choose whether to add:
a. A new email address. Select Create a new email address and add it as an alias, and then follow the instructions.

b. A non-Microsoft email address (such as an @gmail.com or @yahoo.com email address). Select Add an existing email address as a Microsoft
account alias, and then select Add alias.

After you've added the email address, you'll be asked to verify that you're the account owner:

a. Select Verify next to the new alias. A message is sent to the account for verification.

b. After you receive the message, select the included link to confirm that you own the account.

If you selected Add a phone number, follow these steps:

a. Select your country from the list.

b. Enter the phone number you
want to use, and then select Next.

c. When you add a new phone
number, we'll send a text message to that number to verify it. Enter
the code in the text message, and then select Next.

Under Sign-in preferences, select Change sign-in preferences.

Either select the check boxes next to the aliases that you want to use to sign in or clear the check boxes for the aliases that you don’t
want to use to sign in, and then select Save.

email account hacked. please help

Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

Gmail
Outlook

The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!

WP7 live account problem

I am trying to move a relative's WP7 content to a new Android phone.

When they first got the WP7, they didn`t understand Live accounts and put another (non-microsoft) email address and password in as the "primary live account" - of course it never worked, so they set up their email correctly as a secondary account, and
never needed the marketplace, so the fact the primary live account never worked was never an issue.

Now, after some time using it they have a load of contacts on their WP7 phone they want to export before changing phone.....but they can`t sync to the "primary live account" because it isn't a microsoft account.....so we set up a second live account, and
though the phone says it is syncing, nothing syncs....probably because the primary Live account is failing.....but of course you can`t delete that account or change the email address!

So now it seems I can`t export the contacts to another phone/csv, file because:

Primary live account doesn`t work and can`t be removed

Secondary Live account won`t sync because primary Live account is blocking it

Marketplace apps to do the job are not available because the primary Live account doesn`t work.

If I factory reset to remove the primary Live Account, then I will lose all contacts anyway

Cant export contacts to SIM because WP7 doesn`t allow it....

Can anyone suggest how I can export all the contacts before I smash the stupid phone to a million pieces on the head of the idiot who designed this system???????
