Safety of Login credentials for SMB...

Ok so similar but slightly different question:

Background:

• Storage hosted by my Linksys WR32X Router (see screenshot) with authentication credentials
• SMB v1, v2, and v3 are all enabled on my Win10 PC via the "Enable Features" window (and I've restarted my PC)
• My Windows 10 account uses my MS Live email address as a username and I have 2-step authentication set up as well

A Timeline:

• The NAS successfully shows up and is accessible from the Network page in Win Explorer
• I've successfully mapped the storage to a Network Drive in Windows using the authentication credentials I set in my router's settings page (again see screenshot)
• When I try to access the SMB share via a separate device on my network (my FireTV device running Kodi 17--which supports up to SMB v3), I get caught in an endless loop of it asking for a username and password.
• I've tried using the credentials I set in my router settings, which worked when I mapped the share to a network drive in windows, and it didn't work in Kodi
• I've tried un-mapping and re-mapping the share to a network drive using my windows 10 account username and password instead of the credentials set in my router settings, which did not work for either mapping the drive in windows or for accessing it in Kodi
• I also tried generating an app-specific password via my Microsoft account settings in case the 2-step authentication set on my account was causing the issue (much like you have to do to add your account to Outlook Desktop App when 2-step is set up)

I just want to access my SMB share from my FireTV device (or any network device for that matter) without having to create a new local user. I saw some responses saying that I need to set up a new local account and use it's credentials to map the drive and
then it should work, but is this REALLY necessary? It seems like a redundant workaround...

So, what if I don't want to create a new local user? I like having jut one account on my Win10 PC and that uses my
MS email address as the Win10 Account username.

Any suggestions? What am I missing here? Thanks in advance MS community!

3. Win10 asking for Shared Folder when none are set?

Hi all!

My shared folder settings have been doing great ages now, but I've run into an issue in the last week where my Win10 desktop and my brother's Win10 desktop are both always asking for a username and password to Shared Folders that have no username and password set...?

This is only on my home network, so none of the Sharing settings on any of our machines are set to use passwords. I've checked the Advanced Sharing settings in Win10 numerous times now and passworded sharing is turned OFF (it is also turned off on the below-mentioned Linux machines as well, so shares from my Win10 and Linux machines should require NO password).

Windows asks for a password for the shares from both of our Windows 10 desktops and the Samba shares coming from my three Linux machines as well. It never used to do this and, as far as I can tell (as mentioned above), passworded sharing is turned off on both Win10 machines as it always was - I have not changed ANY sharing settings in a year as everything was working fine.

I haven't tried to access a share in probably a week or two, so no idea when this started - was there a recent Windows update that changed something? When I DO enter the username and password for the Shares that Win10 is now suddenly asking for for the machines I am trying to connect to, it WILL connect no problem and work as it always has. My point is that I have passworded sharing turned OFF but it asks anyway, which is a bit of a pain on my own personal network...and it always worked fine and never did this until now...

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Setting up a password for smb sharing on Win10 ???

Can't find the SMB Mapping by winrm

When I use the following steps to make a SMB mapping, I can't find the SMB mapping when I log in the windows.

1. start windows remote manage service on the object windows node. The operation system of object windows node is Win10.

2. make a python script like this and run it

python script:

import winrm s = winrm.Session(http://server_ip/wsman, auth=(administrator, password), transport='ntlm', server_cert_validation='ignore') command = 'net use z: \\\\share_server_ip\share' res = s.run_ps(command) print(res.std_out)

[note]: service_ip is the ip of the object windows node in step 1

3. login the windows node without remote mode, and run "net use" in the command line. I'll find the state of SMB mapping which is mounted by step 2 is unavailable.

My question is why and how to make the SMB mapping which is available for anyone?
