  1. Setting up new computer offline, what will the c:user name be?

I’m going to be setting up a new computer with windows 10 shortly. I don’t want the username to be the first 5 characters of my email address. I planned on setting it up offline so I can add my local email address instead of a Microsoft account. Will this allow me to control what “user” name is used? Is there any way to control the name is?

Setting up new computer with Windows 10 - my user name is truncated

This problem has been asked on this forum several times, and none of the suggested responses have worked. Ludicrous that this bug is 3 years old with no clean solution. My computer provided 'there' as my user name, which is a truncated version of my first
name. Can't change it. Have spent hours setting up my computer so I don't want to sweep it clean just to get the user name right. It never asked me what I wanted it to be!!!!

  3. User Name Issue on C:/User and Cloud Issue

The only way to change that folder name is to create a new "local" user account with the new name. Here's how:

    • Go to Settings, accounts, other users
    • Add a new user (not family member)
    • Don't put in an email, click the "I don't have sign in" link at the bottom instead
    • Don't put in any info, click the "add a user without a Microsoft Account" instead
    • Name the account as you wish (this will become the folder name).

Set up all your stuff in the new account, then go back and delete the account with the name that you don't like.

    ---

Now as for your Office 365, you do not need to install the programs on a computer for you to use your online storage.

As for your two PCs not "communicating with each other", can you explain what you mean?

And no, you cannot place program files in the cloud to make the program work on another computer. If the company you bought it from is still in business, call them and tell them you want to use the program on a new computer (they may require that you delete
it from your old computer before you're allowed to install it on a new computer).

Setting up new computer offline, what will the c:user name be?

    c:\users\myname\allmyfiles\subfiles\whatever.

The computer name has nothing to do with the user name setting and is not affected when creating a new account.

Creating a new local/offline account (it's the same thing as Microsoft started calling it a local account but now calls it an offline account) and not using a Microsoft account (for a new user) means the folder name in C:\users will be the name of the account.

So if you create an account called fred then the user folder will be C:\users\fred\......... if you create an accounts called
microsofterusa then the user folder will be C:\users\microsofterusa\...........

If the old folder name was C:\users\fred\....... and you wanted it to be C:\users\microsofterusa\......... then creating a local/offline account with the name
microsofterusa is the safest way to achieve that.

I think I've covered all I can now in what I've posted so far so good luck.
