Windows 10: settings and search not working anymore.

i noticed 3 days ago that that my settings app no longer opens, it just flashes in screen when i click, and trying in to troubleshoot that i discovered that Search also does not respond at all. my computer has been set to automatically apply updates so I do not know for sure if an update has installed lately although i hadn't seen any signs of an update before i noticed the issue. i have tried every solution on Dell's website to no avail even resetting my windows although i chose to keep my files.i'm really stumped and i'd appreciate any help.

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

Thank you for the detailed response. To change the search result's view from content to list, we suggest following the steps below:

• Open the File Explorer and try to search for files.
• In the toolbar, open the View tab and click List
  to change the view.
• Once changed, close the File Explorer.
• Open the File Explorer again and try to search to see if the setting has been retained.

Windows Search not working anymore after March Updates

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that Windows Search doesn’t work on your computer. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know

1. May I know the update that was installed? To check go to Start >> Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Update >> View update history.
   
2. Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer Which version of Windows operating system am I running?
   

It could be possible that the search indexing is not working properly. Let us try the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:



Check Windows Search service:



I would suggest you to check if the Windows Search service is running properly. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows Logo key + R, to open Run dialog box.
   
2. Type services.msc and click on OK.
   
3. Look for Windows Search service and double click on it.
   
4. Select Automatic from the Startup type drop-down.
   
5. Click on Start and click on OK.
   

Rebuild Search Indexing:



You can try rebuilding the search indexing and see if that helps in resolving the issue. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows Logo key + R, to open Run dialog box.
   
2. Type control and click on OK.
   
3. Select Large icons from the drop down for View by.
   
4. Click on Indexing Options and click on Advanced.
   
5. Under Troubleshooting, click on Rebuild.
   

Note: A Rebuild Index dialog box opens warning that the "index might take a long time to complete." Choose OK to start rebuilding the index.
