Windows 10: Settings app instantly closes when I try to open it and I cannot type in the search bar

A little while back I stopped being able to type in my search bar and just today when I tried to open my settings app it flashes for a brief second and then closes instantly and I cannot change anything. I cannot reinstall Windows or anything since I can't open my settings and all the fixes I have tried haven't worked. Other Windows apps like the Microsoft Store work but not the settings or search bar as far I have noticed, could be others too. Wondering if there is any fix out there I have not tried yet?

Search bar not responding to typed input after 6/12/18 Windows Update

I did the 06/12/18 Windows Update (Windows 10 Home 64 bit), and now the search bar doesn't respond to any typed input. I type in the first few letters, and the search/Cortana window just closes on me and the Search bar is blank. Cannot open apps or do any searching via the bar.

Any suggestions, please?

If you meant the Cortana search bar, review the suggested solutions on these threads:

If you have tried, all of the above suggestions and nothing has worked like in my situation. This is how to fix the problem.

SOLUTION
As you can't update via the settings app, follow these instructions.

1. Hold Windows key & press R
Type in winver (this will show you your windows version)
Mine was (Version 1809 OS Build 17763.253)
2. Check if there is a higher update available e.g (Version 1809 OS Build 17763.292)

3. Click on the KB article that is relevant to you.



4. Scroll to the bottom and download the standalone update by clicking on Microsoft Update Catalog.



5. Download the correct system architecture.




Install and this should resolve your problems - if it does (CREATE A NEW SYSTEM RESTORE POINT)
