  1. Settings crashing when trying to open 'power and sleep' settings

Hello. My settings app crashes every time I open the 'power and sleep' settings in windows 11. When I try to open it, it freezes for a second and shows a blue screen before automatically closing and exiting the app. I had run some modification programs, but after the issue started I removed the settings they changed and it still would crash. Is there any way I can fix it without a reset?

    :)

  2. Power settings

    Hello Cindy,

Let's determine the cause of the issue. To get started, please provide the following information:

    • Do the power settings adjustments ever worked before?
    • Have you made any recent changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Meanwhile, let's run the Power Troubleshooter. This troubleshooter will automatically troubleshoots Windows power plans and detects your system settings that can affects power usage, such as timeout and sleep settings, and screensavers.
To do so, please follow these steps:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Select View by: Small icons.
    • Open Troubleshooting.
    • Under System and Security, run the Power Troubleshooter.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Furthermore, you may try creating a new power plan on the computer and check if it works.

For more information regarding sleep and other power options, you may check this article:
Shut down, sleep, or hibernate your PC.

We'll keep an eye out to your response.

  3. Power and Sleep setting not sticking

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with power and sleep settings on your PC. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?
    2. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?

Refer the article Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.

    Method 1:

Try running power troubleshooter and see if that helps.

    1. Press Windows + I keys together to open
      Settings.
    2. Now click on Update & Security and select
      Troubleshoot.
    3. Look for Power and click on it.
    4. Now select Run the troubleshooter
    5. Follow the onscreen instructions.

    Method 2:

Reset the power plan to default and check if that helps.

    1. Press Windows key + R. This will open
Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for ‘Run’.
    2. In Run dialog box, type ‘control’ and hit enter.
    3. Click on ‘View by’ and change it to
      large icons.
    4. Look for the Power options, and open it.
    5. Now click on Change plan settings.
    6. Then click on Restore default settings for this plan.

Let us know how it goes.

Settings crashing when trying to open 'power and sleep' settings

Computer Sleep Option Missing in Settings

The Settings Power and Sleep menu in Settings should list Screen and Sleep, where Sleep is used to tell when the PC goes to sleep. Sleep is missing, so my computer never sleeps. Fast startup and Hibernate are not enabled.

I used Tutorial Add or Remove Sleep in Power menu in Windows 10 to change the registry while in administrative mode, but sleep still is not seen.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FlyoutMenuSettings now lists :1: It was 0 before the change.

I cannot get a large image, so will type
    Default REG_SZ (value not set)
    ShowHibernate REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (0)
    ShowLockOption REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (1)
    ShowLockOption REG_DWORD 0X00000000 (1)

I used Option 3 to add sleep using the Group Policy Editor. The steps seemed to work fine, but sleep is still missing.

I’m using a “new” refurbished Dell T3500 workstation with mbr running the current version of win10. I have a number of these computers, and the other all have the normal sleep mode .

    Any suggestions? Jim
