Windows 10: Settings keeps crashing whenever I try to open taskbar settings

Whenever I go into taskbar settings, it crashes the settings application. For some reason, everything else works fine. I don't remember when it first happened, but I believe it first happened a few weeks ago. I searched online about the problem, and I tried everything I found, but nothing had fixed the problem. I am on Windows 10 Version 22H2, in case you need that information.I went on to event viewer to copy the following error message:Faulting application name: SystemSettings.exe, version: 10.0.19041.3155, time stamp: 0xbdd5eb20Faulting module&nb

Taskbar - to restore to default settings

Hi,

To change the settings for the icons on your taskbar, follow the steps below:

• Right click on your taskbar.
• Select on Settings.
• On the pop-up window, look for the Combine taskbar buttons option.
• Click on the drop-down arrow and choose Always, hide labels.
• Once done, you can now close the settings window.

Pinning "Settings" to the Taskbar

I've tried both suggestions. But thanks to your(?) earlier post, I do have an icon pinned to the taskbar for settings.

Both were my posts In fact, at first I forgot to post the usual steps to pin Settings to taskbar, and rather complicated (which I thought) by suggesting you create a shortcut. Hence the 2nd post. Anyway, glad the shortcut method helped.

 

settings refuses to open

Does it crash when opening from the Start (cog icon) and when searching for "Settings app" in Cortana?

Can you check if the Settings actually closes;

1. Click on Settings even though it will disappear.

2. Right click bottom of screen (taskbar) and select Task Manager. It should open in the Processes tab.

3. See if Settings is displayed in the list of processes.
