Windows 10: settings return to default with reboot/startup

This started on the morning of Oct 21 at 8a central. The most recent Windows updates were installed Sep 30.


Upon each reboot/startup, everything on the machine reverts to default setting:
time/date format

display settings

all apps default back to the original app

Chrome extensions are deleted

settings on all of my games are back to default

shortcuts removed from desktop

etc etc.


It would be great to go back to a restore point and put all of this behind us but each time I reboot, it deletes all prior restore points and creates a new one at the time of start up.

Setting Default Printer via Startup Script

This looks like a good solution, and similar to some of the VB scripts I tried.. but it is a logon script. I would need something that works as a startup script. We are not mapping printers to users as they move around too much, but rather mapping to each computer.

The Link that W1ZZARD posted is good information. Sadly however, I have tried utilizing most of the commands that are available. The /c command is indeed interesting, but we are trying to map them when a computer starts up (prior to logon screen) versus just mapping them remotely. The purpose would be if we had a lab that needed the default printer changed, sure we could just send the remote command to each machine, or even remote into them ourselves and manually do it, but I was looking for a smoother alternative.

It seems like its just something that will have to be done manually and with user education.

Setting Default Printer via Startup Script

I use a batch at startup to set the default printer,

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /y /n "Printer Name"

After reboot mem/core back to default settings

Your not softmodding. Your card is a Club3d 9700 pro. There is no softmod for 9700 Pros, you are overclocking with ATItool. Softmodding and Overclocking are different. Your cards default settings are 325/620(310X2). These settings are stored in the cards BIOS and whenever you reboot they are reloaded.

You need to create a profile with ATITool at your overclock speeds of 350/660 and have ATItool load it on startup. To do this open ATItool set your clock speeds.
Then click New at the top of the window, create a name for this profile. Something Like "Overclock" and click OK. Now your profile is saved. Now you need to have ATItool load it on startup. Click Settings at the bottom rigth of ATItool, at the next window click the dropdown menu and goto Startup. Check the box to "Load on Windows Startup via:" and select your method, I prefer registry key. Then click the box that says "Every time ATITool is launched, load profile:" and select the profile you created. Click Back and your done!

Now ATITool will launch when windows starts and clock your card the way you want it. Enjoy.
