    Settings window closes after I click on the Update & Security button ?


    The title says it all ! I am running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro Eng. Build 10586.
    I go to the start menu, click on settings and when I click on the Update & Security button the window just vanishes !
    I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Why can't I open my "Update & Security" in Settings? Please help me.

    After clicking Settings > Update & Security, it always closes it's window. What should I do?

    windows update & security/windows update not working

    I have Windows 10. I click on settings, then click the Windows Update & Security button and Windows update is supposed to run but mine does nothing. It doesn't search for updates and after a couple of minutes, the Updates & Security window just goes
    away. Is anyone having this problem?

    Troubleshooting suggestion :

    Right click at Start button > click Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this.......
    sfc /scannow

    > press Enter.
    It will take quite sometime.
    When finished, it will give you one of the 3 reports...............(paraphrasing)
    1. No integrity violation.
    2. Found corrupt files and repair successful.
    3. Found corrupt files but unable to repair.

    If the report is #1, your solution lies elsewhere.
    If the report is #2, check if your problems have been resolved.
    If the report is #3, use this method................
    In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    > press Enter.
    Again it will take some time.
    When finished, it will give you a report.

    Thanks for the fast response. I ran your commands and ended up with "Error: 0x800f081f The source files could not be found.
    Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature."

    I have enclosed the log file.dism.log

    Any suggestions ?

    It will take some doing. If you care to try it........................

    Use the Tech Bench link and download the iso file. It will have the Install.wim in the Sources folder.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

    After the iso is downloaded, mount it.
    Then in the elevated command prompt ( Command Prompt (Admin) ), copy/paste this command line .................

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:X:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

    Note :     X is where your iso is mounted. Change it to the correct letter if it is not X.

    Well, I tried this several times, restarted the PC each time. The CMD line said that it had succeeded but the same negative result each time.
    I have "Updated" Windows from USB install but no positive result.
    I think that I will reinstall Windows 10, I will not lose any data as I have a separate HDD with data on.
    Anyway thank you for your time and assistance.

    David, I did a fresh install from a USB Key but the same thing happened, however i did restore from the fresh install and it now (so far) looks O.K.
