Windows 10: Several apps and all Microsoft office apps either throw an error or don't execute when launched

After a recent Windows 10 update non busy hours earlier this month most apps like all office apps, calculator, paint or photos start the window and just fade away. Some of these apps like all office apps if you launch them through a file like .docx, .xlsx or .pptx they throw an error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."





Prior to the update all these apps were working fine.


So went through several forums and have tried several things

1. Ran a virus scanner but did not find anything.
2. Ran Microsoft safety scanner and that did not find anything either
3. Rolled back the update to a previous restore point - have gone 4 restores more than 2 months ago
4. Scanned through all the files to see if there was any corruption
5. Uninstalled and Reinstalled Microsoft office
6. Checked an old thread where a similar problem was resolved by selectively updating the runtime files for each of the 8 accessories calculator, paint, etc on Windows 7 and 8 so wasn't sure if something similar may be a problem with Windows 10.

I suspect my registry may have been corrupted and I don't have a backup so wanted to post this and see if anyone has either run into something similar or have what I can try next. I use Microsoft apps for school and has become quite annoying as I use some software on 1 device and Microsoft apps on another device or online have challenges with several Excel macros or functions. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I understand how it could be when the applications doesn’t work as they are supposed to. We will look into this. However, please reply to the following questions to help you in a better way:

• Are you getting any error message?
  
• Since when are you facing this issue?
  
• Are you aware of any changes made on the computer recently?
  

In the meantime, I suggest you to follow the steps from the article

OneNote App in Windows 10 throws 0xE0000797 error on App launch

Hello,

It seems that OneNote App (after update to latest version 2015.6131.10021.0) in Windows 10 throws 0xE0000797 error on App launch when trying to connect to OneDrive. This occurs even if all the OneDrive notes files have been deleted from OneDrive. Reinstalling
the App (after removing it using PowerShell and installing it from Windows Store) does not help.

Running sfc /scannow does not help either.

If you do get the OneNote App to run it refuses to save anything on OneDrive and keeps prompting to buy an Office 365 subscription plan. So it seems that OneNote to OneDrive connection is no longer working with the latest version of the App...
