  1. Several features stopped working after BSOD

    I'm on a G551JW running Windows 10

I have been at this for two days now, here's what happened, what I found and what I've tried

I had just updated Photoshop and Illustrater when my computer bluescreened.

Once it booted back up noticing later that this now takes longer than usual the first thing I noticed was that my sound wasn't working, after trying the obvious things I seem to have narrowed down the source to be becasue "Windows Audio" doens't have permission to start. getting "Error 0x80070005: Access Denied" when trying to start it manually via services.msc

Second thing I noticed was that half of the icons on the start menu are gone, the tiles are there and they have names but there's no icons.

I also dont' get the option of running the command prompt as admin via the start menu, but it does let me do it via explorer in its folder by rightclicking.

More concerning issue, in the "Settings" app, most of the thigns relating to my account aren't working, it mainly seems to be anything that's meant to open a separate window, instead they flash by and can't be acessed, for example:

    • Update my info, can't do that, which then is replaced by
    • Verify my idenity, which I also can't do
    • Changing the password for my admin account
which I don't remember, and due to that I can't start the computer in safe mode or run "startup repair" Normally I use a pin number but that's not waht its aksing me for there

I can still "Manage" my windows account, but that brings me to my email and thats apparently not the same password I need to use to login to the admin account when trying to start safe mode or startup repair on boot.

Everything in windows update is stuck on "pending download", such as "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909"

Attempting to change my active hours crashes the settings app as soon as I hit "Save"

Options available through the control panel all seem to be working fine, apart from when I try using "Fix problems with your computer" via the start menu, which gives me "File system error -2144926975"

    Here's some things I've tried:

    • running "sfc scannow" in the command prompt running as admin, it said it found issues and fixed them but the only thing it seemed to have fixed is that I can run the troubleshooter for windows update which then tells me there's no issue eventhough the actual issue remains.
    • running "dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth" in the command prompt, still as admin, which was successful but didn't change anything.

I did both of these a few times but after the first fix from the sfc command nothing new happened or changed

    • Tried a repair install using the Windows ISO, it runs through the whole thing and at the end i get a window saying the installation has failed, I tried it again wiht my antivirus off but still the same result. I would have tried getting it on an USB stick and do it that way but I don't have one large enough.

Ran a "Check" on my harddrive, it said no errors, ran some microsoft software that was ment to fix permission errors? cleaned out junk files, ran a defrag, scanned for malware, and several other fixes listed in threads after searching for each one of the mentioned issues, both specifically an generally but either there's no change, or there's some error or lack of permission that keeps me from following them through.

From what ive been able to gather it all seems to be related to corrupted system files? And I guess maybe they're too messed up for the basic solutions to work?

I am just about ready for the drastic option, backup my files, wipe the computer do a fresh windows installationbut now I'm worried im gonna end up being locked out by that admin account that I can't change the password to. Or that it might wipe everything and then fail to install windows again like the repair install did. And if that's what I'm risking with my one computer during social distancing I wonder if I'm not better off sticking wiht a soundless computer that can't update?

Please help me fix it or at least understand what the issue is.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

"Continue on PC" feature stopped working

    Hi Paul Michael,

If the link from your phone to your PC or the feature itself suddenly stopped working , it's possible that a system conflict may have caused it. For to isolate the issue, we'd like to ask a few questions:

    • Which Windows version are you using? Type winver on the search bar and press
      Enter to find out.
    • Did you encounter any error messages?
    • Have you made any changes your device prior to the issue?
    • What steps have you tried so far to troubleshoot the issue?

We look forward to your response.
