Several issues using Windows Media Player with audio files stored on OneDrive

    1. When playing a OneDrive stored audio file directly from the Window Media Player Library, the seek bar is not functional and can not be used to skip parts of the audio.2. Windows Media Player incorrectly shows a time duration of 0:00 for every audio file stored on OneDrive.3. Windows Media Player can not show the tags Album, Artist, etc. for OneDrive stored audio files even though the tags are stored in the Details Tab of the audio file. IMPORTANT: These issues occur when the concerning audio file is online-only on OneDrive.Clean installing Windows, resetting/disabling/enabl

Issues while playing Music files using Windows Media Player that are stored in OneDrive

I used to store all of my .mp3 and .m4a files in my hard drive outside of my OneDrive folder, and they always played without issue in Windows Media Player (WMP). A few months ago I started paying for OneDrive and moved all of my music to my local OneDrive
folder. All of the files remain stored locally (i.e. I have told OneDrive to always keep them on this device). Since moving them to the local OneDrive folder I sporadically have issues when playing these music files with WMP. The two errors I get (with
    no discernible pattern) are:

    • RPC server is unavailable
    • Server Execution Failed

The files play fine with other audio programs (e.g. iTunes, VLC, Groove). They often play fine with WMP, but not reliably.

    Notes:

    • RPC and RPC Locator services are running and set to automatic start in services.
    • This has only happened on one computer that I use to access these OneDrive files.
    • The source of the files (e.g. iTunes, CD rip, etc) does not appear to matter when encountering the problem.

Several issues using Windows Media Player with audio files stored on OneDrive

    windows media player

    Hi,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

What is the exact error message you get when you to try play files on Windows Media Player?

I suggest you to run both Windows Media Player Library and Settings troubleshooter and check.

Step 1: If your computer is having problems playing video or audio files in Windows Media Player, try using the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter checks the configuration and network settings
for Windows Media Player to make sure that you can play content you've downloaded and saved to your computer, or content streaming over a network or the Internet.

Steps to run Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter are as follows:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
    • In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Click View all, and then click Windows Media Player Settings
      and follow the instructions.

Step 2: If your computer is having problems accessing your collection of digital media files in the Windows Media Player Library, try using the Windows Media Player Library troubleshooter to fix the problem. The troubleshooter makes sure
Windows Media Player is correctly installed on your computer, and checks to see whether your Player Library is corrupted.

Steps to run Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter are as follows:

    • Press Windows key + X and select Control Panel.
    • In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Click View all, and then click Windows Media Player Library
      and follow the instructions.

Please reply us on the status of the issue to assist you further.
