Windows 10: sfc and dism ..... old issue returns

Device : Surface Pro1
OS : Win 10 Pro version 1709 OS Build 16299.19

Old issue resurrected..........

Ran Sfc /scannow......reports corrupt files found but unable to repair.
Ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ,,,,,,reports restore operation completed successfully.
Ran sfc again....... reports corrupt files found but unable to repair.
Ran dism again ...... reports restore operation completed successfully.





I am not going to worry about it.
I am just reporting it to the forum in case someone is encountering the same.

SFC stops at 22% and cannot complete ,DISM returns "The specified buffer contains ill-formed data."

RESOLVED via a Windows 10 refresh second attempt that succeeded after the first would not allow files to be retained.

After again creating an ISO file, the second install resulted in retained files and no SFC errors. Thanks for your time.

I suspect your os is mortally wounded if SFC & DISM cannot complete. I would not bother trying to get them to work but would instead do a repair install (or better yet a system refresh) from the ISO

 

At one time I had had the same problem on one computer.
As you have done I ignored it.
If you have time some evening see if you can perform an in place upgrade repair (it should save files and applications) (run it overnight) and see if it fixes the underlying problem:

Just to make sure the problem is not because of the "age" of my tablet, I did the same to my less than 1 year old Dell laptop.
Results are the same.
