  1. SFC Error

    Hello,

Recently my PC has rebooted randomly, and then it couldn't find boot device, so I reseated my SATA and power cables going to the HDD. It seemed fine, but SFC found corrupt files. I can't fix this error.

    Tried:
    • sfc /scannow
Result: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Result: The component store is repairable. The operation completed successfully.
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Result: The source files could not be found.
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source
    Result: Error: 0x800f081f
I also attached a DISM log.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    :)

    Error with sfc

    Hi,

In this case, since your operating system is unstable we recommend that you perform an in-place upgrade using an ISO file to repair any broken system file while keeping your personal files, settings and installed applications. To do this, follow the
steps provided by Andre Da Costa in this article.

In addition, performing an in-place upgrade would be your best approach to resolve your concern and it will make your system works on its full functionality again.

Keep us posted if you encounter any challenges along the process.

    Error with sfc

My computer blue screened several times in a row while trying to boot. After hard resetting it, it booted successfully, but I believe several key windows files were corrupted in the process. I've been trying to run sfc to try to repair it, but I keep getting
the error "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation." I tried running chkdsk but it didn't help. Here's the details from the sfc logfile:

    SFC Error

Go to #6 and run the dism command using the techbench iso as your source...fixes everything!!! you will need to mount the iso and use that drive as your source. https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7...-10-image.html

Do it this way, the mounted ISO will be your source files!!

Download the Techbench ISO go thru the prompts and hit Save (it will be in your download file). Right click on that file and at the top it will say mount. Click on that. Go to This PC and you will see the file with a checkmark and a drive letter. This confirms it was mounted. Make a note of the drive letter associated with that mount.

Next, run this command ( make sure you use admin command), where /Source:wim:d: change d to your drive letter that you mounted then hit enter. Copy and paste.

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:d:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

It will stay at 20% for a while and then say it was completed successfully

Next you need to run the sfc/scannow command and it will repair your files.

You cant download the iso file from the mct tool, it has to be from Techbench and it has to be the same build your trying to repair

Please let me know how it goes, you can go back to the mount later and hit eject and it will dismount.

  6. Wow! Finally, thanks for helping me out! Guess the problem was the iso file I used, thanks for pointing out the TechBench one.

    Have a great day!

  7. Nevermind, it looks like sfc still couldn't fix the issue, but DISM was successful

At the end of the dism cbs log (follow the path) there is a small paragraph of what it fixed or the corruption it fixed...the cbs log is very long. Its near the bottom and will tell you how many items it fixed. Copy and paste it and send it back.

Also you may need to run the sfc/scannow a few times to fix the problem. Try that first...Let me know

Ok, get that downloaded ISO from that Techbench file and burn it to a disc or stick (right click on the file ). Make sure your bios is set to boot from whatever you transferred it to. Reboot to the ISO file we just created and keep running the prompts until it says install and keep all files and apps (the top one). It is just like an in place upgrade. You will lose nothing at all, don't worry. Reinstall windows 10 this way (and every other time they come out with a new build). It will take a while, go get a beer or two. Let it reinstall and don't touch anything. Your system should work fine again. Run an sfc scan after the fresh install. Let me know how it works.

  10. In the CBS log it seemed that everything was fixed. I ran SFC again, and... Hurray! Found no integrity violations.
    Thanks for your help!

That made my whole day!!! glad to help, that's what the forums are all about.
Remember to go to windows update (being you have pro version), advanced settings and make sure to defer upgrades.
When a new build comes out, wait to see if there are problems and if not, download the latest version from Techbench and reinstall Windows using the latest ISO, Naturally keep all settings and apps. That's the only way to avoid problems. And also if you have room on your system keep the downloaded ISO handy to fix sfc and dism problems if they arise. you can lay money that they will!! Wish you the best JD

And wouldn't you know, I ran an sfc scan again and found corrupt files again!! This is why you keep that ISO around to fix the crap that keeps happening. I hope Intel and MSFT address these graphics issues soon.
