Windows 10: sfc windows resource protection could not perform...

The in place upgrade repair was successful.

 

Ran sfc /scannow in admin cmd and getting "sfc windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation" error. Already done chkdsk multiple times but still getting the same error. Booted from safe mode as well as from the recovery environment but no success.

That registry key looks fine, just like mine. I don't much like what I'm seeing in Reliability History, though. That computer clearly is somewhat worse than "fairly OK". Now, we must BING what we see in there for a possible cure.

(1) I know you began in this thread with Win 10, v.1709 (OS Build 16299.125).

(a) How long was it v.1709 before these problems began?

(b) How long was it OS Build ...125 before the problems began?

(c) Have you updated to OS Build ...192 yet? (How nice - if that's a cure.)

Near as I can figure - for your Parameter 1 of 0x30 - a miniport driver has stopped communicating, & !ndiskd.dll is used to identify which one. That deals with the network adapter. Therefore, it could be worth a shot to update the network adapter in Device
Manager. If Device Manager won't update it, then maybe there will be an update at the computer manufacturers site or at the site of the manufacturer of the adapter. If no update can be found, then just un/re-install the one you've got.

Also, it won't hurt to update all your major drivers at the computer's site. If the site has a greater one, first try to fetch it with Device Manager (search automatically). If that fails, take the one from the site. BIOS version can be seen in
MSInfo32 (ask Cortana).

(a) What computer make & model is it?

(b) What is the name & version of the Network Adapter in Device Manager?

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
1) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
2) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
3) sfc /scannow
4) chkdsk /scan
5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

If the scannow fails after the restorehealth or if the restorhealth fails too then perform an in place upgrade repair with a Windows 10 iso.

It will take time to troubleshoot the scannow problem by troubleshooting files.
The files are error messages and error codes.
Often the error messages are ambiguous and the troubleshooting is inconclusive.
If you want to view the logs you can open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for the CBS and DISM logs.
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
C:\Windows\Logs\Dism\Dism.log

Also open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt
Then use file explorer to find the sfcdetails.txt file.

For the files > use 7zip > one drive or drop box share link

It will take a shorter period of time to troubleshoot by performing an in place upgrade repair.
The DISM restore health was fine.

To perform an in place upgrade repair perform these steps:
1) Find a flash drive that you can format ( > or = 8 GB )
2) Create a bootable Windows 10 iso:
Download Windows 10
Saving a Windows 10 iso either this version of Windows 1709 or making a new iso with 1803 may come in handy for any unexpected future operating system problems.
3) Power on the computer
4) Insert the Windows 10 iso flash drive into any USB port
5) Open file explorer and look for the Windows 10 iso
6) Click on the iso and launch setup or setup.exe

If you have a backup image a clean install can be performed followed by a restoration.
If you had not made a backup image please read these links as a backup image may come in handy in the future for any unexpected boot, drive failure, operating system, or registry problems.

I had a look at it but I cant see anything really out of the ordinary. but then I dont really know what I'm looking for.

Then search for the sfcdetails.txt

Download and install Everything:
voidtools
This software will index all files on internal and external drives.
It can start on boot or when you need it.
As you type characters there will be instantaneous search results.
The more characters that are typed the narrower the search results.

Search for:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
sfcdetails.txt

Zip each file > post one drive or drop box share links into the thread.

Did everything search not display anything for sfcdetails.txt ?

When performing an in place upgrade repair customized Windows settings may be lost.
For example settings are likely to return to default settings.
Applications and files should remain.
The repair should fix problems related to the operating system.
Deeper problems that involve the registry are often not fixed.
So if there are any problems with the computer you should be able to perform an in place upgrade repair with few worries.
In most cases it fixes underlying problems without causing new problems.
