  1. Shall I reset my pc to get back my locked Microsoft local account?

I upgraded my laptop to window 11 yesterday and I tried to log in back my Microsoft account. They asked me for the current windows password which I didn't set one. So I filled my old password which I used for window 10 and it was shown incorrect. I tried again and again. After that, I put my laptop to sleep mode and when I was about to sign in, it was shown "the referenced account is currently locked out and blah blah". It was locked and I waited for 30 minutes. It still doesn't work. Shall I reset my pc or wait for a day or two? I don't know how it's set in setting for how long it takes when

    :)

Reset local account password on Windows 10

    Technical Level : Basic

    Summary
Describes the steps to reset you local account password on Windows 10

    Details
    A
    Microsoft account
is a single set of sign-in credentials (email address and password) that provides user access to PCs running Windows and connected services
from Office to Outlook to Skype. If you lose or forgot your
    Microsoft account
password, you can recover it from any other device with access to the internet: follow these steps.

A local computer account is an account that is created for a particular device.

If you don’t have a Microsoft account, forgot your local computer account password, and do not have access to a local administrator account for your computer to reset your password,
you can’t recover it. Instead, you’ll need to reset your PC

Warning: Following these steps will remove all of your data, programs, and settings.

    • Start your PC and select the Power icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the lock screen.
    • While holding down the Shift key, select Restart.
    • On the Boot options menu, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC > Remove everything.
    • Your PC will restart and will reset itself.

  3. Locked Out of Admin Account

    Hello Linda,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account?
    2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
    3. Is the other user account an admin account?

I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard at the login page and check if you are able to login to the PC.

    1. At the login screen click on the
ease of access icon at the bottom right hand corner.
    2. Click on the on screen keyboard to open it.
    3. Type the password and try to login.

If you are using a Microsoft account, I suggest you to refer the article on

how to reset your Microsoft account password
    .

However, if you are using a local account, then I suggest you to refer the article on

reset your Windows 10 local account password
    .

Note: While performing these steps, there might be a risk of data loss. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.

    Hope it helps.
