  1. share files between two pcs on home lan ethernet

I have a PC at home connected by ethernet to a router. This shows as Network 5 in Network and Sharing Centre.I have another PC in another room connected via ethernet to the same router. This shows as Network 2 In its Network and Sharing Centre. I've tried everything I can think of to get the two PCs to see each other via File Explorer so I can share files, backup from one to another, etc.How do I do this?? Help, please!

    :)

Unable to share files in my LAN

Hi all, I have two Windows 10 PC's in my home LAN (connected to same wired router). I would like to be able to transfer files between them. I have followed all steps in this guide and verified all requirements comply with it. When I open Windows Explorer and then click on Network in one PC I see the other PC listed, but when I double click on the PC I don't see any shared folder listed, not even the Public folder, instead I see the following error, any hint? Thanks

Unable to share files between PCs over Ethernet

    1) Want to transfer files between PCs using ethernet (single owner/user, home LAN)

    2) Absolutely delighted [not!] by ~ twenty-five (25) step 'simple'
    process required ... ARRGGGGH!

    3) Survived hoop-jumping up to "enter credentials for PC access" (or some such $#%#^)

    4) Since I use access # Code on Win 10 PC, and have
never required credentials on Win 8.1 PC ... nowWTH?

Attempted using my actual LAN password, which - of course - Failed!?

    5) Attempted checking LastPass for usable credentials - but with no ethernet-router connection*.... (now between PCs)

    6) Finally attempted "Turn off password protected sharing", except
    Save Changes
    is consistently greyed-out!? WTH? ARRGGGGH!

    7) Any helpful & relevant suggestions??

    * No Wi-Fi on Win 8.1 PC

Shared Ethernet devices not showing on Win 11 PC and File Sharing Problems

Now that I am sure my Ethernet connections are OK, here are my real problems:

I had my Ethernet LAN working for years. Upgrading some connected PCs to Win 10 did not cause a problem.

One of the PCs in the network was a Win XP PC. I bought a Win 11 PC on the Black Friday sales - a really

nice PC with a SSD that is fast (for me - I do mostly number crunching with Excel). In setting up the Win 11 PC

I followed Microsoft's advise and switched all my PCs to Pin logon. I thought the Win 11 PC would connect to the

my LAN automatically. I've been playing with this ever since and am now resorting to 'Sneaker Net'

using a memory stick to transfer files and back them up.

Among my frustrations is things like I don't have administrative permission to access or change files and if I uncheck a file property from read only, apply the change and click 'OK' the file returns to read only when I recheck it's properties and the Win 11 system doesn't tell me why it did this.

    1. My Win 10 PCs show and can connect to the shared folders and files on the other PCs.

For some reason I have to sign in with my name & password (Pin) to access the files

even though I turned off password protected sharing. However, I can only read the files. I cannot

save the file or copy a new file to the folder. For some reason I don't have permission. even though I have the

permissions (per folder properties-security). I uncheck 'read only' and apply it but it does not take effect.

Note: I can use the shared printer on the Win 11 PC from the Win 10 PC (HP p6616f) so the connection is working.

    2. Although at one time The Win11 PC (HP TP01-2256) could access the folders and files on the Win10 PC (HP p6616f),

    this capability suddenly disappeared.

Currently The Win 11 PC does not 'see' the Win 10 PCs

Here are my current LAN settings:

    JPS LAN Settings

    Note:

The first 2 PCs (HP TP01-2256 and HP p6616f) are connected to an Ethernet switch

The Ethernet switch and the Dell Inspiron 3847 are connected to a FIOS router.
