  2. Enter Network Credentials issue.

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

It seems like you're facing issues with accessing shared folders on your desktop from your laptop after a clean install of Windows 11. The "Enter Network Credentials" prompt is asking for the correct credentials to access the shared folders. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Username and Password: Double-check that you are entering the correct username and password. The credentials you need to enter are those associated with your desktop where the shared folders are located. If you're using a Microsoft account to log into your desktop, you should use the associated email and password.
    2. Use Correct Network Path: When entering the network credentials, make sure you are using the correct network path. The path should resemble the following:

      \\computername\sharedfolder

Replace "computername" with the actual name of your desktop computer and "sharedfolder" with the name of the shared folder you're trying to access.
    3. Update Credentials: If you're sure you're using the correct credentials but still facing issues, you can try updating the credentials in the Credential Manager on your laptop:

      a. On your laptop, go to the Control Panel. b. Navigate to User Accounts > Credential Manager. c. Under "Windows Credentials," click on "Add a Windows credential." d. In the "Internet or network address" field, enter the name of your desktop computer. e. Enter the correct username and password for your desktop.
    4. Check Folder Permissions: On your desktop, ensure that the shared folders have the appropriate permissions set up for the user account you're using to access them. Right-click on the shared folder, go to "Properties," and under the "Sharing" tab, ensure that the correct users or groups have the necessary permissions.
    5. Network Reset: If the issue persists, you might consider performing a network reset on both your desktop and laptop. This can sometimes help resolve network-related issues. To do this, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Network Reset.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

How can I share folders between computers? Network credentials not recognized.

I have the same microsoft account on two computers. I want to share folders between these two computers and no other computers on the network. In advanced sharing options, I have selected turn on network discovery and file and printer sharing under "private current profile". Password protected sharing is turned on. The individual folders are selected to "share this folder" with everyone having full access.

Going from PC to laptop, I have attempted to access the computer using file explorer and have been prompted to enter network credentials. I have entered everything imaginable but they are always denied. I have used my microsoft account email, the name listed, my microsoft password, my pin and every combination of the above.

    "

Going from laptop to PC, it simply says "Windows cannot access folder, contact network administrator for permissions."

Shared folder from my PC is automatically entered on another computer without a credential...

Windows 10: Enter Network Credentials Username and Password for a computer that already has "no password required sharing is enabled"

I have 3 existing Windows 10 PCs. All signing in with the same Microsoft account (user name is hotmail email address). All PCs has following in Advanced sharing settings:

    • HomeGroup connections

      • Use user accounts and password to connect to other computers

    • Password protected sharing

      • Turn on password protected sharing
Shared folder on these computers with permission set to Everyone. All of them can access each other just fine.

Bought a new Windows 10 PC, set up with the same MIcrosoft account.

Then I added a shared folder on the new PC. Any one of the existing PC can access this new PC’s shared folder, but problem is that the new PC cannot access shared folder on any one of the old PC. Windows keeps showing “Enter network credentials” and
“the username or password is incorrect” dialog box.

Researched on Internet and played with different setting, none of them helps.

Then I tried the following and it worked:

    • Change all PCs to “Sign in with a local account” and use the same username/password. After that the new PC can access old PC”s shared folder.

    • Now change all PCs back to “Sign in with Microsoft account”. Interestingly, now the new PC can access shared folder on other PCs.
So it looks like new PC has to share with other PCs with *local account* first before sharing with Microsoft account is allowed.
