Windows 10: Sharing a folder on a PC with a user on another PC

I know the basics of network sharing, but it only works for me if I specify sharing with Everyone. Here are my two problems:

1. I want to share a folder on one PC with a specific person working on another PC. I get to where I have to type a name and then click Add.... Whatever I type in, Windows can't find it. So there must be some specific syntax? As an alternative, I can click the down arrow. Ghis gives me 4 choices, of which the only useful one has to be "Create a new user..." If I choose this option I transfer to creating a new account on this computer, which takes me to Settings>Add a new user to this machine - and They have to have a Microsoft account for this to succeed. Clearly, I am not on the right track here!

2. I want to give myself access to the C drive on my desktop from my laptop. Although I can share the drive albeit only with Everyone and I can see it on my laptop, I can't map to it.

So, I will surely be grateful if someone can help me out.

Desktop is protected folder (anti Ransomware in Windows defender).

Try make a share somewhere else...

Edit: tried here and I have no problem to write on another computer's Desktop.

When sharing folder on first cumputer (in advanced mode), did you follow all the steps? - add user / find / ...

And finally add User (your username - hope it is with administrator rights) that is the same on both computers.

Let's say I have a folder, "c:\my_stuff" on my Windows 10 PC.

The Windows 10 PC is named "win10PC".

I have a laptop, "win7lap", running Windows 7 with multiple users.

They are connected on the same network.

I would like to share the "c:\my_stuff" to user "Thomas" on the laptop.

The solutions for Windows 10 suggest using a Homegroup, but Homegroups were removed from Windows 10. I don't see anything about creating a homegroup when I follow the instructions for Windows 10.

Windows 10 will let me share a folder with specific users on the Windows 10 PC or with "everyone". I don't want to share the folder with everyone on the network, only with an account on the Windows 7 laptop.

How do I share a Windows 10 PC folder with a User on a Windows 7 laptop on the same network?

FYI, this is a home network with a Windows 10 PC, a Windows 7 laptop, cell phones and tablets.
