Windows 10: Sharing a folder on home private LAN

On my private LAN I want to share documents on system A with system B. System A's File Explorer shows that the Network folder displays both systems listed first is system B - as DESKTOP-FLKD0I5, then system A as DESKTOP-NG6EJEC. That's all.


In system A's File Explorer I select the Documents folder, then tap Properties, then Sharing, and Windows asks for the "name" of system B. What does Windows want for the name? DESKTOP-FLKD015? The person's actual name, John Doe? *** Email address is removed for privacy ***? I've tried everything I can think of.


System B's File Explorer displays only its own entry - nothing else - but in a completely different format - as a Media Device: DESKTOP-FLKD0I5: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, along with all the other devices. Nothing for system A.


The Documents folder on system A displays its owner as Jane Doe *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. I thought Windows would want the same format for system B. I'm stumped. This is a 5-minute job for someone who knows what they're doing. Help!

Private folders encrypted and password protected folders

Im posting this because i've been looking for a free tool like this sense XP thought people should know about it *Toast :toast:

Windows 7 when combined with Pismo get’s an incredible feature of creating password protected folders ( *.pfo ) which they call as Private Folders. It is just like any other folder to which you can add any folder and do any operation but not password protections just comes out of the box in Windows 7.

your files are probably set to private on the desktop since it had a password, hence you can't browse them from the laptop. you may have to add you laptop to the permissions list or move the files to the shared folder, or manually share the folders that contain the files you want to access.
