    Sharing files and folders not working on one computer


    I have two desktops, one 32 bit connected by wifi and a 64 bit Windows 10 pro by ethernet. I can connect to shared folders from the 64 bit computer to 32 bit but not the other way round.

    The error I receive on the 32 bit computer is network path not found when I click on the 64 bit computer in the Network Explorer. Running diagnostics on the 32 bit computer results in "file and printer sharing are on but not responding to connection."

    Any ideas on how to fix?

    File sharing not working on network

    I have 8 computers connected to a network through a server (Windows Server 2012 R2).

    I am trying to share files with a specific computer user only. File sharing is enabled. (It works on a folder that I share with everyone).

    I have shared the file, removed the user everyone, and added the user that I wish to share with. Permissions are to share the folder with this user only. The folder is visible over the network however all users, including the ones with permission are told
    they do not have access to the resource. This is ok for 7 of the 8 users, but the 8th one needs access to this folder. What am I missing here.

    File Sharing

    One easy way is to just use "old style" file shares instead of homegroup. For example, you could make a folder on one computer's desktop (doesn't matter which one) and mark it as shared by going to properties for the folder. Then both computers can save
    and share files to that folder over the network by browsing to the network path of \\computername\sharename

    With wifi the router can have a setting user isolation or similar which stop you connecting to local network so if someone hacks in they get the net but not local network check your router. Failing that have you shared a folder and is netbios running can you ping the pc by name and ip?

    Guest access if off that is the only way it would be isolated. I can ping the computer by name but I get an IPV6 IP in the response from ping. I am using a 6to4 gateway as my ISP doesnt support native V6 yet.

    I did have success yesterday after I did a windows repair trying to fix another problem but restored the backup of my current 64 bit system and it stopped working again. I wonder if it is because I have changed my MS password and the old machine isn't up to date?

    On the Win 64 PC, if you haven't already.
    1. Check that the Network is Private.
    2. Check that the PC is Discoverable.
    3. Check the SMB versions that it's running.

    Sharing files and folders not working on one computer

    This is what I use when I'm comparing 2 PCs to see what SMB ver is installed/enabled

    1. Open PowerShell as Administrator (winkey + s > type in powershell > Right Click on PowerShell > Run as administrator)
    2. Copy & Paste the following in the PowerShell Window and Press Enter to generate the smb-check.txt file on your Desktop.
