Windows 10: Sharing Files with Specific People Question

The new file sharing options in Windows 10 requires I share with Specific People. When I try to add a specific person who is on a different computer, it takes me to a window for adding an account to my computer. I don't want that person to have an account on my computer, I just want them to be able to access and share certain files on my computer. How do I do that?

Share with Specific People??

I'm a novice at networking but have been getting by using homegroups for a specific office setup.

We have 8 PC's on the network, but only 3 of them on a homegroup that enables us to share files with
only those 3 machines. (full read write access)

Now that homegroups are retired, the machines still have shared access only with each other and are still isoated from the other machines, without issue (not sure how). I have a new employee that needs shared access to these existing 3 machines and still
maintain privacy from the others on the network.

I can't seem to figure out how to "Give access to Specific People" to share the files of the other machines.

when I get the add user screen, I can't figure out the syntax or method to add a user from the new machine.

I get a message that says "windows was unable to find user "station-mobile\linda"" (where station-mobile is the computer name and linda is the user)

Maybe I'm going about this all wrong, does it see the user over the network?

How to share files or folder on a specific user on the network?

Hi Mateenn,

In the light of the information given by you, please follow the below steps and check if it helps.

1. Select the file >Right click it and select Share with.

2. Select Share with> Specific people.

3. There Type the name of the user or you can simply click the arrow in the dialog box to select the user and select Add.

4. Select Share.

Cannot access shared network drive

If this helps.
step 1 create non-microsoft account and without email and address without admin rights
step 2 share a drive or folder to specific user account (if Everyone is listed, remove it)
step 3 set security > add Authenticated Users (if more than 1 account) or add specific users
step 3a remove Everyone from list
step 3b uncheck full control and write for all items listed except SYSTEM and Admin account.
step 4 right click Start > Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares ... to verify settings and change anything else. You can also see the number of connections to each share here.

I could scream! so much time wasted on this stupid error, as if time is not precious enough!
It probably would work fine if I could see the other computer! But I cannot see the other computer!
