  1. Sharing My User Account Folder in File Explorer Shares the Entire \Users Folder

When using net share Steve=C:\Users\Steve /grant:Steve,FULL a new share named Steve pointing to C:\Users\Steve is created as I'd expect. However, if I share my user account folder C:\Users\Steve using File Explorer, a new share named Users is created which points to C:\Users, not C:\Users\Steve. I've confirmed this using net share from the command prompt. If I delete Users using net share and then share C:\Users\Steve again via File Explorer, but this time naming the new share Steve in the Advanced Sharing.. pane, two new shares are created: Steve which points to C:\Users\Steve and Users which

  2. Kol-12 Win User

    Entire Users folder is shared.

I've recently created a new administrator account and converted my original admin account into a standard user account for "best practice security"

I noticed that as a standard user I'm able to access the administrators user folder which AFAIK a standard user should not be able to do.

On checking the properties of the "Users" folder and the "Advanced sharing" section of the "Sharing" tab the "Everyone" group has full control over the users folder. The folder is also indicated as being in State:Shared.

I did not initiate these permissions on the users folder so the only thing I can think of is that when I created a Homegroup that the Homegroup initiated the share. I only created the Homegroup for testing purposes and removed it afterwards. I've read a
similar report about Win 7 where in the creation of a Homegroup or public sharing automatically shares the entire users folder and even after removing the Homegroup the users folder remains shared!

Is it possible Windows 10 has inherited the same behavior? At this stage I'm purely speculating about what's happened but the Homegroup issue does seem feasible.

Basically I want to get this all set back to normal or default and I'm concerned that this also a security issue. Not knowing exactly what's happened here I'm unsure about what permissions to go and start changing without breaking anything or making things
    worse. Can anyone help me?

  3. Network Sharing of a Folder Inside User Folder

Hi, I have three computers that I share with inside my network (as shown when opening file explorer). It works fine but every time I try to share a folder that's inside the user folder the other people on the network don't just see that folder they have
complete access to every file inside the user folder. Anyone have a suggestion that allows people to only see that particular folder inside the user folder?

For instance C:\Users\Rich\Pictures is the folder I want to share on the network but when I share the others see the whole C:\Users not just the pictures folder.

    Thanks!

Sharing My User Account Folder in File Explorer Shares the Entire \Users Folder

    Entire Users folder is shared.

    Hi,

As you surmised, setting up the Homegroup environment could be one of the factors why that's happening.

If I'm not mistaken, there is an option to control sharing permissions by right-clicking the folder (in this case, your Users Folder), selecting
Share with, and clicking either Stop Sharing or
    Specific people.

You may also refer to this
    link
for more information regarding a similar issue that happened in Windows 7 and see if you can apply the same steps in your system.

    Regards.
