sharing netbios without password across subnets

I have shared files between 2 laptops on my homenetwork (1 subnet) without password.
I have read netbios can also share across subnets if you place a hostfile with the mapping hostname-ipnr on the client.
My question is, if bios can share across subnets, isn't it dangerous to share without password because someone can share your files from the internet?

    :)

  2. How do i uninstall KB3163018? Blocking VPN!

Are not able to connect to VPN at all or not able to reach to your corp resources after VPN connection?

Can you try out the following steps documented in the KB (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3165191) ?

NETBIOS communication outside of the local subnet is hardened. Therefore, by default, some features that depend on NETBIOS (such as SMB over NETBIOS) will not work outside the local subnet. To change this new default behavior, create the following registry
    entry:

    SUBKEY: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters

    Value Name: AllowNBToInternet

    Type: Dword

    Value: 1

A reboot is required after this change.

  3. Windows 10 Updates Delete Windows Firewall Settings

I have a reasonable number of computers being managed. All are Windows 10 Pro, some 32-bit and mostly 64-bit.

All are using the Windows firewall.

We share files across subnets and need firewall rules in File and Printer Sharing to allow access via Remote Address IP scope entries.

These, and perhaps other settings appear to be deleted when the Windows updates are installed.

It's a lot of work to reconfigure.

We also use WMI for SIEM across subnets. Same sort of thing....

I figure this is most likely a bug. How to report it?

Passwords are there to protect you if the PC's are connected to the internet or use WiFi then with no password you are at risk if you were to get ransomware it can spread to all PC's very simply
