Windows 10: Sharing PC's To Outside User and Protect My Info and Network

i have a W10 machine that i need someone outside my home to connect to with teamviewer and fix some items for me. this may or may not be done when i am around.

since i have my onedrive, chrome, etc.. that i wouldne want someone to access as well as not being able to use the Network to access the rest of my PC's on the network what is the next way to set this up?

i looked for a Guest account but looked like W10 wanted an email to send link to or something.

i appreciate any suggestions or guidelines on how to set this up.

Windows 10 file sharing on a network

This is for work--and on a WorkGroup--I have shared the folders on the different PC's--all are Win 10. I need to have security on the network so that not all users can get into and share all PC's folders. I have turned off the password protected sharing
and it does not work on some of my networked pcs. I know it must be simple, but I am not getting it to work properly.

Same issues here. I do not use Password Login on my PCs. I have Password Protected Sharing Disables and I can only access PUBLIC file/folders with Zenui. Attempting to access other shared drives/folders result in a request for credentials. (acts as though
Password Protected Sharing is Enabled)

One notable exception on my network is, my PC that is a Win7 Home Upgraded to Win10 Home without a clean install of Win10. I can fully access all shared file/folder/drives. All my other network PCs are Win7 Pro upgraded to Win10 Pro then a clean install
of Win10 Pro.

Notes - I have deleted and setup a new Homegroup (not that that should matter). And all my PCs have full access to each other.

Hopefully this extra info will help someone figure this out.

**** Edited 11:25 pm - Just for grins, I added a PC configured with Win7 Pro to the network and I have full access to all shared file/folders/drives on this PC with my phone.

 

Welcome to the forum. To fix a problem the person will need to be admin so he can then get to all your files and other pcs there isnt a simple way to stop this all you can do is be in front of the pc and watch and pull the plug if needed but even with that he may do things you dont understand and plant things on your pc

 

well i dont believe they will need admin access or C: drive access at all. everything being worked on is located on a second internal D: drive. they would need to be able to launch programs that have icons in taskbar and make changes on the D: drive.

i was thinking i could log out of OneDrive (if thats possible) and Dropbox, Chrome etc... to address getting a look at anything online but no idea how to limit access to network.

ok here is the whole scenario.

i have a full size arcade cabinet that used to be a Capcom Bowling Machine and converted to self installed joysticks and it will play just about every game from MAME (coin op games), NES, SNES, Sega, Genesis, Intellivision, etc. etc.. with roughly 3,200 games on it.

the front end i use is Hyperspin which is by far the most difficult to setup but when finished it is also is the best looking and most amazing way to handle everything for the user.

the cabinet i have i bought from a very nice gentleman in my local area but i made many improvements to it including throwing a whole new PC inside with a lot more power to handle PS2 etc.. games and you have to setup not only every EMU for every system but also the 14 optional controls for the joysticks and buttons which also include demo videos of each game.

i have about 30 hours starting from scratch but have hit a wall and this guy knows this system inside and out but is about an hour away and can fix it up with teamviewer remotely.

so i have 2 machines i want him to access which is an old PC that is fully setup and working and will contain some config files that can just be brought over to new PC to save time but also the new PC will need things adjusted and not copied.

everything involved in the set including program files on the new PC is located in the second internal D: drive and the old PC does not have any of my connected accounts on it

so i need him to be able to log into both of them the old W7 machine and the new W10 machine and get me setup without getting into my personal info or accessing my network.

i am not super worried about it but if i can have the peace of mind to just prevent access to my stuff that would be great.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like a very cool setup. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to do what you want. Do you want him to be able to run programs on the computer or just edit files? If it is editing files, then maybe just file sharing instead of remote access would be what you want to do. He downloads the file to his computer, edits it, and uploads it back to your computer.

 

Use a rolling Random password. Unless you grant them unlimited permission to go in and make changes. I personally would not let someone into a system that you have spent a lot of time setting up. Make sure that you set Teamviewer to log the connections, so if they do try and do something against your rules, you have a way to prove that they caused a problem, not your MAME system.

The only big problem that I can see is if the system has crashed, they would not have a way to get in. I would then incorporate WOL (Wakeup On LAN). You can also get a POTS reboot module, which you make a call to the landline number that you are using for the module and then punch in a code to reboot the system. They are not normally used these days, since someone is always able to get to the server and reboot.

 

i really appreciate the info from everyone. i realized i could take my Verizon Mifi unit and connect the Pc's to that which would solve my network concerns.

for my personal info i am going to test logging out of Chrome and OneDrive which are the only personal items i have on the PC. if logging out doesnt work properly then i will just uninstall them.

 

Unless you make specific changes in Teamviewer. A person using it has full access to the system that they are allowed to log into. Same thing with RDP.

See this about restricting full access rights: By default, when someone accesses your computer through TeamViewer, he or she gets full control of your PC. That is, with full access, one can connect and view your screen, control your computer, transfer files, establish a VPN connection to your computer, lock the local keyboard and mouse, control the local TeamViewer, file transfer using the file box, and view your screen via switching sides.

If you don’t like he or she transfer files or establish VPN connections from your PC, you need to edit the default access settings for all operations under TeamViewer settings. Follow the steps given below to change the default access settings.
