Having owned this fantastic HP Envy Windows 10 notebook for a couple of weeks I am really impressed with Windows 10 ...

Just noticed that Windows 10 "AU" 1607 is ready to install... .Should I be worried now

I know forums only show bad experiences but I really do hope all goes well... Couple questions..

If it say's "waiting to install" does that mean it has already downloaded to my notebook?

It will do this when I am not using it, so I presume when it is in the "Windows 10 "OFF" state" overnight does that mean it will install it then, and I will wake up to the "configuring update" screen?

Must say Windows updates have never worried me, but for some reason this does Lol ..

I have noticed a lot of issues with Windows 10 seem to be notebooks that have been upgraded from a past Windows version rather than "out of the box" notebooks, does that seem correct?

    Oh well here goes
Should I be concerned now? AU update arrived :( [IMG]

See what tomorrow morning brings ... I suppose doing the install when it is in the "off" state may be better than clicking install now whilst everything is on and running? does that sound right?

Well it did not install anything in the 12 hours it was off overnight... When does Windows 10 decide to install the updates when not in use? I had hoped that it would have done it last night but both updates still show as waiting to install...

I am tooooooooo scared to press "install now" Lol ...

I know I did have one of the other updates showing and that did install overnight when I was not using it..

I always use "shut down" so the notebook in the fast boot state of shut down

    Should I now be worried?

OK. not going mad, it has now reappeared now I have restarted the notebook to see if it had installed

Would this install itself when I shut down overnight by itself...I shut down using the fast boot Windows 10 version of shut down, I know it did install one earlier overnight..

  3. Should I be Concerned

I have an E71 and an E52, the E52 is very buggy so I check on a number of Symbian sites each day for news of a firmware update, what I am noticing more and more is the complate lack of news or development of the non touch symbian devices. I know they are
bringing out new models i.e. E72 but all the news and exciting happenings are about touch screens. I like having uptodate technology but it also has to have style and my friends N97 is far too gimmicky and everthing looks shoe horned into it, I have another
friend who has a HTC Hero and I was blown away by this device with its total intergration. I dont want to start a which is better Symbian or whatever but I would like other peoples views on non touch screens devices, are we heading down a blind ally with them
and Symbian (I dont include Maemo) or is the future bright.

"wushowhide" from Microsoft is VERY useful in this scenario.

With Windows 10, you have no choice but to have updates installed automatically. So yes, update your computer.

Try out Windows afterwards, if everything works out, YAY problem solved.

IF NOT; if there are problems:
Uninstall the update, then go to Microsoft's website:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930
and click "Download the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package now."

Open that file, and select Hide updates. Look for that update, and hide that update. Windows will now never automatically do that update. My father's computer had a problem with this update, so we got rid of that update from being looked for.

  6. Thanks for the reply...

I am really confused now.. if you look at both screen shots above,, this morning I had the "AU" update, now its gone... I have checked and it has not installed, still shows 1511

I think the problem is you only hear of the bad one's on forums, not the good one's just like y own enthusiast forum for cars...

I will install it or let it install itself, if it comes back Lol

That most likely means that the Update installed itself, and if so, then hey, that's great because it doesn't seem like you're having any problems! =D

So install those two new ones, after they're done, look for the blue Update history link. Click that, and look for the Feature update 1607. If it's there, then everything's good!

Also, restart your computer. The 1607 update might still need to update itself, so that will take some time. After the computer loads up, restart the computer, again!

It should take little time to load up, after it loads up, check Update history. If all is there, then you're all set to go bro!

  9. Just checked all that, still says 1511 in the about screen and nothing shows in the installed updates as "Feature update 1607"... It was there an hour or so ago now disappeared... I am really confused now...Lol

Unless it does something when I turn off tonight and back on in the morning maybe... Would it install while I was using the notebook but not install the other? seems strange to me.. Lol

    Restart your computer.

It should take a little bit of time to update it (give it around 10 minutes or so, if you have the time). If not, just Shut Down and we can check tomorrow

  11. Thanks for the reply... very odd Lol

I will be turning off in a short while, so I will see what happens but I have had no sign at all that anything has installed and I have been using the laptop all evening...

Would it install in the background? unless it did it in the hour or so I put the notebook to sleep to have dinner this evening...

Hopefully it has and I can stop worrying Lol and tomorrow morning it will say updated but I was expecting to be more involved and say restart scheduled...

Don't just shut it off, restart it. Big difference.

Ya, don't worry about anything! Be glad that you have one of the best operating systems out there! =)

The updates install themselves in the background without you knowing, so yes, it is very likely that the update has installed itself (yet still needs to restart your computer and load up to finish up completely).

Don't stress yourself out about a thing!

(Shutting down the computer is still okay, once it gets started up, it will continue. Yet restarting it would be more preferred in general)

Correct; Updates will install themselves without you knowing that they did.
