I have just restarted the notebook and it still shows 1511 so it has not installed... not showing in installed updates..

It is just checking for updates now so I will see what appears *Smile

That is also true. I've had updates install themselves in the past, and didn't show up in the history immediately, they show up a little later sometime. But no worries! Since you restarted the computer and everything went fine, you should relax (you said it was night time). Don't stay up on this. By tomorrow, everything will get clearer.

Just be glad that the computer restarted and loaded up =)

  3. OK. not going mad, it has now reappeared *Smile

Would this install itself when I shut down overnight by itself...I shut down using the fast boot Windows 10 version of shut down, I know it did install one earlier overnight..

Where are you seeing 1511? Are you using the winver command in the Command Prompt (Admin)?

Sure, you can press Install Now, as long as you have an extra 30 minutes to spare to make sure it installs completely.

So after you press Install Now, wait until the updates finish. Once you can confirm (computer says) the updates are complete, restart the computer. This will take some time. After the computer restarts, you can look at the Update history if you want. (Be aware that if you STILL don't see the update there, do not get mad or worried or anything bad!! It is all OKAY! Sometimes this happens, it might take some time to show up there, like I said before).

After all that, restart computer to confirm everything loads up properly.

  7. I have turned off for the night now but I will be brave and click "install" tomorrow Lol I check version using the about section in settings... but now its reappeared no idea what happened Lol

Does 1607 install the same as any other Windows update? I was expecting it to be like Windows installing again rather than an update for some reason? i.e Windows is installing etc

Yea, don't worry about it at all for now! =)

When you wake up tomorrow, we'll install the new update!

And don't stress out about the whole Windows Update messages, because they are completely confusing at times, yet they get the job done! So it will all work out by tomorrow.

  9. So 1607 is a normal update, just a bit larger to add features like a service pack used to be, it will just be like any other update, not a reinstall type update?

Lol thank you... using my old Vista desktop now... still going strong *Smile

Thanks for all the help and advice, great forum, glad I joined *Smile Been a Windows 10 user for a couple of weeks and love it...

You are 100% correct! 1607 is a normal update, yet much bigger that adds more features, services, security fixes, etc. It's just like any other update. It will Not reinstall anything; All your settings will stay the same =)

    You're welcome and I'm glad you're enjoying Windows 10 =)

  11. Thank you for all your help and reassurance... Will see what tomorrow brings, who know it may do it overnight for me anyway Lol

That is the only thing I do not like, not being able to say yes or no to updates...

Thanks again.. I will be back soon *Smile

  12. Well I still have not been brave enough to click "install" although I may do it this afternoon Lol ...

What I have noticed is the one update for v1511 has installed itself overnight whilst in the fast boot shutdown... I can confirm this as the last thing I did last night before turning off was see if the updates were still there, that was at around 10PM UK time... 3rd September... The update shows as installed on the 4th September, again I checked as soon as I powered up...

Consider you have had a lucky escape. After installing the Anniversary update, I can't access my digital certificates, my homegroup had to be reinstalled, I get constant printer errors, it doesn't roll back to the previous version correctly, so you will be stuck with it, it is slower and in my opinion not worth the bother.

  14. That is why I am in two minds to press install... you hear the bad reports, then again I own a vehicle enthusiast forum and like all forums you only hear about the bad things, not the 1000's that are happy, just makes you think though..

Is your computer an "out of the box" pre installed Windows 10 machine? reading most forums people that have upgraded from an older Windows version seem to be having more issues than factory pre installed machines... I see very few that are related to new, pre installed Windows 10 machines...

My old HP Envy which was 5 years old updated OK and seemed OK but I had issues with black screens when waking from sleep mode and had to power off... I suspect that the older machines are not quite as compatible as Microsoft say *Wink

  15. I updated from Windows 8.1, which was so badly flawed as to be almost unusable. I have been quite happy with Windows 10 until this update.
