  1. Should I download windows 11 or 10 when moving to a new drive?

So my laptop came pre-installed with Windows 10. I know that when a laptop comes with Windows 10, you can put in a new drive and download windows onto it while keeping the full version without putting in a key. However, on this same laptop I decided to update to windows 11. If I get a new drive, do I have to download windows 10 or do I download windows 11? I read that when buying a laptop with windows 10, that the os stays within the device and moves over to the new drive. I did not buy it with 11, I only updated to 11. This is where the confusion comes in when deciding which version to put on

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  4. Should I download windows 11 or 10 when moving to a new drive?

Can I still upgrade to Windows 11 if I change the storage drive, CPU, and motherboard?

    Thanks for the quick reply.

If I understood you correctly I'll have to follow the following steps:

    1. Install the new hardware with Windows 10 still on the old drive.
    2. Re-activate Windows 10 (probably requiring Microsoft Support).
    3. Move the activated Windows 10 to the new drive.
    4. Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11.
    Is that correct?
