Windows 10: should I get a new digital license for windows 11?

I have built my own PCs from the Dos/windows 3.1 days. Sometimes I would have to purchase new windows programs, other times I would upgrade. My last purchase was for Windows 7 home Premium/ultimate. I have continued to upgrade my hardware with new mother boards and cpu and re-register/activate/upgrade windows with some effort. Unfortunately, on the windows 11 upgrade I had to update the bios for the secure boot. It worked for a bit but then after a windows update I could not access bios with no boot. I could not reflash the bios without an external programer and do not want to have to do th

Unlink Windows 11 Pro Digital License

Thanks so much for your help. That really clarifies my situation.

Using this article as a guide, my plan is to:

1. Replace Windows 11 with Ubuntu on the laptop that currently has the Windows 11 Pro retail digital license activated on it (even if reverting to Windows Home is an option, I just prefer Ubuntu on this computer for a programming environment). I will not yet remove the 'device' in my Windows account.
   
2. After assembling my new PC, I will install Windows 11 via a USB drive.
   
3. When prompted I will choose the "I don't have a key option"
   
4. I will log in with my Microsoft account
   
5. I will go to Activation Settings > Troubleshoot
   
6. I will click "I changed hardware on this device recently"
   
7. I will chose the new PC from the list of available PCs
   
8. I will check "This is the device I'm using right now" and click "Activate." This will enable Windows 11 Pro on the new PC and deactivate the installation on the old laptop (which at this point will be running Ubuntu anyways)
   

Does that sounds like a good plan?

 

Please help with "reactivating" my digital licensed Windows 11 in my new computer.

My Being has just bought a new MSI computer, and tried to reactivate my Windows 11 digital license (from the old one, to the new one,) but to no avail. And when IT tried to reactivate it from a listing of devices connected to my live Microsoft account, there's a device there that is foreign to my Being (i.e., a dell desktop.) My Being has never owned a "Dell Desktop". So it seems that my account is hacked, and perhaps, that's the reason why IT can't reactivate my Windows 11 digital license in my new computer. Can someone please help?

 

How To Activate Windows 11 Signed-into Account (B) Using A Windows 10 Digital License Linked to Account (A) On A Different PC?

I have:

• An old PC that:
  
  • Is running Windows 10 Home.
    
  • Activated using a digital license that is eligible for Windows 11 update.
    
    • Digital license is linked to an old Microsoft account (e-mail #1).
      
  • Does not meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11.
    
• A new PC that:
  
  • Is running Windows 11 Home.
    
  • Is not yet activated.
    
  • Is signed-in using a new Microsoft account (e-mail #2).
    

My main goal is to activate Windows 11 Home on my new PC using my existing digital license while keeping:

1. The new PC signed-in to the new Microsoft account (e-mail #2).
   
2. The old PC signed-in to the old Microsoft account (e-mail #1).
   

Side note: Though I would love to keep the old PC working and still licensed, it is OK if that is not possible.

Initial idea:

1. Unlink digital license on old PC from e-mail #1.
   
2. Link digital license on old PC to e-mail #2.
   
3. Check that the new PC is activated.
   
4. Switch back to e-mail #1 on old PC.
   

Yet, I am unsure about the proper way of handling this process while avoiding any hiccups.

Actual questions:

1. Would my initial idea work?
   
   1. Could you please point me to how to unlink an account from a digital license?
      
   2. Could you please point me to how to link a new account to a digital license?
      
   3. Would the Windows 11 Home activation be automatic and immediate or is there anything I need to do before?
      
2. If not, what are my other options?
