  2. Network Access Protection

    Hi,

Network Access Protection or NAP is a network platform which Administrators apply on a corporate (or home) network. Once your PC is connected to a network that uses NAP, this NAP will check your machine for:

    - Does the PC have required software and network?

    - Is the software up-to-date?

As it is performing this check, you will be running under limitation (due to the data information collection about the computer’s identity) on the network. However, once everything is fine, you will get full network access.

If you are connected to a corporate network then you'll need it. But if you are a regular PC user, then you don't need this, it becomes pretty useless. However, I provided the steps below for you, so you can enable it.

    a. Click Start button and type services.msc in the search box and hit enter.

    b. Find the Network Access Protection Agent and right-click and choose Start.

You can also modify it so that it starts with the PC.

    c. Just right-click on Network Access Protection and select Properties and modify the Startup type, change it to Automatic,

    d. Click Apply and OK.

    e. Close the Services.

    f. Click on Start button and type “napstat” in the search box (without the quotes) and hit enter.

Let me know if that helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Engr. Jamshed Muhammad

  3. network access protection

    Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

Let's try the below steps and check if it helps:

Method 1. Run Network adaptor trouble shooter

You may try Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services as a first step to diagnose and repair common Network issues.

To run the trouble shooter follow the steps given below

    • Press Windows key+ X key, Select Control Panel.

    • Click on Troubleshooting, Click View All.

    • Click Network Adaptor and follow the instructions
If issue still persists try method 2.

Method 2: Install the Network drivers in Compatibility Mode.

Compatibility mode runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows.

Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

    a. Download the driver from the manufacturer’s website.

    b. Right-click on the driver setup file and click on
    ‘properties’.

    c. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box
‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Run Windows Update and download the latest driver:

Should I have network access protection running at all times?

LAPTOP is not accessible ..... Access is denied.

SMB 1.0 is not required for sharing between two W10 machines, only for sharing with older systems such as XP. It's unnecessary here, but having it should not cause issues either.

Share permissions set to 'Everyone - Full control' is one thing, but the ntfs permissions on the folder being shared also need to be set to allow access.

I always turn off Password Protected Sharing on the PC doing the sharing, leaving it on (the default) often causes 'access denied' on trying to connect to the share.
