Windows 10: Should I Upgrade to Windows 10??

I’m thinking of upgrading my Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system to Windows 10 while it’s still free. Please refer to my system specs for information. Since the Mobo, processor and everything else on the system predates Windows 10 (and Window 8 for that matter) I’m a little concerned that the system may not be optimized properly for Windows 10 or that there may be some other disadvantage I’m not aware of. I don’t have any problem with Win 7 but am interested in some of the bells and whistles on 10. I am aware that Windows 10 will delete the AMD Catalyst Control Center but there are workarounds for that. I also have quite a few older programs on the computer but nothing is showing up in the Win 10 compatibility report.
Can anyone tell me what if any downside there may be in upgrading my system to 10?

Good day to all I came to advice all the users with windows 7 that if you love your Intel WiDi then PLEASE DON’T upgrade to windows 10.

If you, like me, have a 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3 Mobile Processor, Intel® HD Graphics 3000 and Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 in windows 7, don’t upgrade to windows 10 cause if you do, you will lose Intel WiDi
it happened to me, then if you try to reinstall the App and driver no mater wish version you try, windows 10 will say, that you can’t run this application in this version of windows
if you read here it says that yes you can Support for Wireless Networking
but trust me you can’t I did try with all this versions Setup3.0.13.0, Setup3.1.29.0, Setup4.2.21.0 and Setup4.2.24.0 they all end up with the message You can’t run this App in this version of windows then the one that works Setup6.0.44.0 this one will say
that your Graphics and Wireless Adapter are not supported I did try almost every solution posted in the support forum here and at intel.com and at the end did not get a solution to my problem so what was my solution at the end? Did have to go
back to windows 7 and reinstall all my programs so be very careful if you want to upgrade to windows 10 please visit this page and verify your System if you can’t use the PRO version of WiDi you may end up losing it.

I should wait to upgrade ?

I was considering to upgrade too windows 10

and I was wondering maybe I should wait

until redstone windows 10 update is out? basically is windows 10.1 )

You can upgrade, if there are major issues you can go back to the win 7 install.

 

If you have an external hard drive or network storage, make an image first with Macrium Reflect Free. Then you are 99% guaranteed to be able to go back. Windows 10 built in reversion to Windows 7 has proved problematic for many in the past.

 

Thanks. I've always used Windows 7 backup for making images and its worked flawlessly the few times I've done a recovery. I will install Macrium Reflect and make an image with both programs. This should take me from 99% confidence to something even higher!
