    Exactly!
I complained about my monthly bill. Speed bumped up to 3X, download cap bumped up to 4X and my monthly bill was slashed down to 3/4 of the original (Rogers Internet, Canada).

Here is my awesome speed..lol. Though I usually get over 6 Mbps. Also, it is wireless. Only two options where I live and this is the better one.

That is so much better than no connection at all. I bet it will be faster if you connect your PC wired. For desktops, wired connection is always highly recommended. Same with laptops if it stays in one place most of the time. I only use my wifi at home for smartphones and ipad/tablet. Even my PS3 and PS4 are always wired. The rule of thumb is, if the device is stationary, wire it. For devices that is far away from the router, I use powerline adapters to be able to connect them wired to the internet.

When I say wireless, I do not mean WiFi. What I mean is that I have to have a satellite dish like you would have from DirectTv. It picks up a signal from a main dish on the top of the grain elevators that are here in town. So it is considered a wireless connection instead of something like dsl, cable or actual satellite. Strange, I know. It was either this or Centurylink. At least the company I go through is more or less locally owned, about 50 miles away. Also, the connection is always steady and very rare down times. The only compliant that I have with them is that sometimes it takes up to 45 minutes for then to renew your IP address. Not sure why. I think that they may do all of their customers at once.

It could be WiFi too. My ISP is by 5.2GHz WiFi and is good for 15/3 Mbps. From antenna, which is a router too, goes a switch and from there is all wires to various rooms. There's an AP too, which gives me WiFi connection for wireless devices. Only difference between wired and WiFi connection is that WiFi has much larger ping but DL/UL speeds are same.

Mine is from the dish to a small adapter of some type that acts like a modem, then to my router with wifi set up for other devices and a cable to my computer.

  9. i wrote this on another post when the guys at Maximium PC were complaining that there should be a fiber network across the country:

Trying to flesh out high speed internet across the US will be a extremely daunting and expensive task. The US is the third largest country in the world and people have this tendency to build their homes in the most god awful locations to run fiber to. 7 miles up a dirt road in rural Maine with only 6 houses on the road (like where my brother-in-law lives) and you want fiber to your home, seriously? In NYC alone, there are 2,146,892 apartments with every one of them needing to have new fiber pulled through the building's walls to give them all a fiber connection. Add all of the smaller towns and villages and all of the old apartment buildings in the country alone would be something only the government could afford to do the infrastructure. All of the really high speed countries are small and have these huge, newly built cities where 90% of the people are urban dwellers. As for the largest countries, do you think China has fiber to their desert communities or Russia supplies high speed internet across Siberia? We will have to wait for some sort of technology solution like high speed wireless hub based stations sprinkled around a region. Ubiquitous fiber to the home is a long ways away.

Patience, patience, good stuff is coming: Samsung announces super fast, 4.6 Gbps Wi-Fi technology , It's unrealistic to expect fiber in every home even in Monte Carlo let alone in some large country. What should Canadians expect with it's size and population density ? S.Korea is supposedly country with highest average internet speeds but I doubt every remote village has it. What about Australia with it's population density ? WiFi, Samsung is promising can surmount necessity for very large and expensive infrastructure. It's not only the speed but with it comes bandwith too and one super high speed emitter can service many half decent networks.

  12. Apparently I can get 1 GB fiber for $229 per month. I'll stick with the 100 /25 (approx) they just bumped me up to for free, was originally 20/10 then 30/15 . It really yanks my chain when we get adverts for Comcast having the fastest internet as they are not even close in this town. Metronet, Local Utility, AT&T U Verse and finally Comcast. The local utility covers most of the county with wireless for clients "off the grid". Since Metronet put their cables on the Utilities poles and ducts they have a cross sharing agreement and they both offer 1GB fiber to homes and business.

Making progress! Nice to have competition. ATT was run to the town in 2012 give COX a scare. The fastest ATT offers is 30Mbps. You gotta laugh.
