Windows 10: "Show thumbnails instead of icons" disables preview pane

I was trying to reduce performance issues in Windows 11 and noticed that "Show thumbnails instead of icons" option in the Performance settings, disables not only thumbnail previews instead of icons but also the preview pane. If this is expected behavior, this option should be renamed to include "preview pane". Otherwise, this seems more like a bug if thumbnail previews instead of icons is the only thing that should be disabled. Can someone elaborate on this? Is this expected behavior or a bug?

In File Explorer, when I search through folders, some jpg files show as thumbnails, some as icons. Some show up in preview pane, some don't. there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason or consistency to it. Please don't simply instruct me to select thumbnails
or preview pane in the view tab, because I've already explained that there's no consistency to it.

 

JPEG Thumbnails NOT showing In Windows 10

Hello,

I have a very unique issue. I am unable to view jpegs in two capacities.

1. can ONLY see icons and NOT thumbnails
2. unable to see thumbnail preview in preview pane
3. I CAN see documents, spreadsheets and etc, I CANNOT see jpegs for some reason

I have checked all settings and can confirm that:

1. Always show icons, never thumbnails option is
   unchecked
2. Display file icon on thumbnails option is checked
3. Show preview handlers in preview pane is checked

I have also tried:

1. Restoring the default settings
2. Restarted my computer
3. Disabled and enabled the settings as a refresher
4. Cleared cache
5. Used Disk Cleanup to remove thumbnails
6. Under the Performance section, I checked Save taskbar thumbnail previews and
   Show thumbnails instead of icons and clicked on Apply and
   OK to save changes.

None of these have resolved the problem.

I need some major help. Please, please, please, if you're out there! Please assist with this issue.

 

Disable Taskbar Thumbnail Preview?

Hey there,

I was just searching the internet for ways to disable the Taskbar Thumbnail Preview in Windows 10, and I found one that half-worked (only some apps use list view instead of thumbnails). I was wondering if there was a way to completely disable the preview?
I am alright editing the registry.
