I did get an error message when trying this on a Virtual Machine where I'd completely wiped it and recovered from a Recovery Drive.

The Recovery Drive process is a bit flaky in my experience, so is quite likely the cause of the problem, but thought you might be interested.





It did then go ahead and read a key.

That seems to be random error (seen it on another forum as well)
I have been unable to replicate it - I'm assuming a registry key that has an inconsistent value or my not decoding it properly - either way I'll need to provide tighter checks when decoding those values - hopefully it will be fixed in the next build.

Cool! (although I can hear tem moans now, like with Ccleaner*Smile). You might want to put a hint on the GUI, about clicking the key #'s for posting, it looks like I'm not the only one that didn't see that.

 

The one DavidY posted is generic anyway.

 

No Edwin I mean you too. I once pixelated and Craig told me I only have to click the key numbers and it makes XXXX-XXXXX-XXXX_AD7V or whatever your last four are. Then just make a windowshot.

Once you get the first error message, it's best to screenshot everything, and don't expect the next click or whatever to work as it's supposed to.

It's not the first rule of software testing, but probably in the top 30. *Wink

 

Like before my upgrade, and then my clean install, I made screenshots and docs of what I thought would help later and save to my 2nd internal where my libraries are located*Smile. But I never had any problems with ShowKey, but I saved the info anyhow.

Perhaps you can help me out.
When i ran the showkey app on a Pc i get a Edition: Win 8.1 RTM CoreConnected OEM*BiggrinM key.
Is that a Win 8.1 OEM Bing version or just a normal Win 8.1 OEM version.
The idea was to reinstall Win 8.1 on a OEM Pc (Key is in BIOS) with a fresh Win 8.1 iso file.
