  1. Shrink D Partition

Hello, I am facing a problem with C disk. It has not enough space for my applications and I want to get some GB from D partition which it contains Page files and it is a Basic Data Partition. I have read many articles on the internet for this subject. A possible solution is to shrink the D partition and extend the C. Although, the shrink option is grayed out as it is shown in the screenshot. Is there another solution to get more space in the C partition?

    :)

  2. undo partition shrink

    Hi,

If you accidentally shrink the volume of your SSD partition, there is an option to extend the volume as well. To extend the volume of your SSD partition, follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + X on your keyboard and select Disk Management.
    • Right-click the partition that you want to expand and click Extend Volume.
    • Select the amount of space that you want to extend.

Keep us in the loop with the result.

    How to create D: partition?

You can manually create the D Drive:

    • Open Disk Management (accessible from the right click of your Start Menu)
    • Select your C Drive, right click it and select 'Shrink'
    • Shrink the drive by the size you wish your D drive to be (1000MB = 1GB)
    • If Windows has problems shrinking the C Drive, defrag the drive and try again
    • You will then be left with unallocated space - right click this unallocated space and create a partition on it

  4. Shrink D Partition

Can't shrink volume more than 22 gb

Yes, I think it should. Anyway, please delete pagefile.sys beforehand.

    Run:

    • bcdedit /enum all | findstr /i osdevice
Note down the drive letter for your OS partition -- .e.g, D:\

    Assuming d:\, run:

    • del d:\pagefile.sys /a
    • del d:\windows\memory.dmp /a
    • rd d:\$recycle.bin /s /q
    Then, run Diskpart.

    • diskpart
    • list vol
    • select vol # (where # is the volume number of your OS partition)
    • shrink querymax
The output will show how much it can be shrunk.

To shrink the volume using Diskpart, see the article: Shrink a basic volume | Microsoft Learn: Shrink a basic volume
