    Shutdown Shortcut

Win XP had a neat tip/trick where you could create a Shutdown shortcut and place the Icon on your desktop. To shutdown your PC, you would just click on the Icon, and voila, your PC shutdown.

Does anyone know if something like this is available in W10?

    :)

    Power on/off prompt

    Hi George,

Right click your Desktop, choose New Shortcut:

To create a shortcut to shutdown your PC enter this in the location box:

    Shutdown -s -t 00

    Name the Shortcut Shut Down

    That's it!

You can drag that shortcut onto your Taskbar if you wish and delete the desktop Icon

    The command for Restart is:

    Shutdown -r -t 00

The command for Log off is:

    Shutdown.exe -L

How to shut-down PC when the start button and the task manager are not working on Windows 10

Hi Yvonne, a couple of ways to do that . . .

    1.

On your Desktop use this Keyboard Shortcut

    Alt + F4

    2.

Right click your Desktop, choose New - Shortcut

In the location field paste this:

    Shutdown -s -t 00

Click Next and name the shortcut Shutdown

    Click Finish

Double clicking that new shortcut will shut your PC down

    Shutdown Shortcut

    Hello miata, *Smile

If you like, Window 10 already has a Power menu you could use to shut down the PC from.

If you prefer a desktop shortcut, then you could create a shortcut with a command in Option 8 of the same tutorial above. I like the command below.

    shutdown /s /f /t 0

And it's even handier if you put it in the Taskbar and /or Start menu.

Be careful. The /f parameter forces a shutdown even if data is not saved. I recommend omitting the /f and then it warns you still have unsaved data. It is too easy to click a shutdown shortcut by mistake.

Also, if you optionally add /hybrid, it shutsdown in a manner to allowa fastboot restart.

    And their shortcuts:
    Shutdown: C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00
    Restart: C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 00

I have only those. While we are at it, there used to be way to switch to another OS from a shortcut like that. I had it as a switch from W7 to XP at one time.
