Windows 10: Side by side configuration incorrect not opening Excel or Publisher

Hi, I am unable to open Excel or publisher files Word and powerpoint seem fine and am getting an error message saying that the application is failing to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect. It says to look at application log and use command line sxstrace.exe tool. I looked at the log and saw the errors. I did all the system updates and the problem still exists. I have looked on line and seen things about removing and reinstalling visual C++ but can't find anything about visual C++ in my programs or apps. The command line sxstrace.exe doesn't do anything now either.


Can anyone help please? I have files that I need to be working on ASAP.

Can't open files in excel, publisher or powerpoint

I can't open any of my documents in excel, publisher or powerpoint. Word still works. It tells me to select an default ap but excel, powerpoint and publisher are listed.

 

Side by side configuration incorrect

I'm attempting to install some software (namely sage accounts ) on a fresh install of windows 10 pro.
After installation (which appears to be successful) I receive the "error side by side configuration incorrect " when trying to run the app ..
I have googled the hell out of this and only find threads suggesting deleting all c++ versions and re installing.

I have tried several re installs of the software and following the above guide to no avail.. can anyone suggest a fix for this please ??

CSV files used to open in Excel....not now!

Hi, you say Excel is installed. Does it run normally?

You can't find Excel in (an unspecified) list of applications. I don't know which list that is for sure.

For example, in the list related to:
- rt click a file. Open With
- this list:



- this list:




- some other list...

If Excel does not appear in the above, I suggest you repair your office installation.

Maybe the above gives you some ideas. Otherwise please post a screenshot of where you think you should see it but don't. Thanks.
