Yep, that's why you should use an option in the tutorial to turn off Cortana instead. *Sad

Do you now see this below like in step 4 of OPTION THREE? If so then speech, inking, and typing personalization is on.

  9. I just tried renaming the .dll it with current build 10586 that has same effect as renaming searchui.exe which is it breaks search in startmenu

Either way I have Cortana disabled every i can think of short of renaming it, and Searchui.exe and Com surrogate seem to be hitting the cpu for 8-10% from both processed every few minutes. Searchui.exe use to be suspend majority of the time, now it almost never suspend and in an 8 hour up time, that pc running per day, cortana has about 1hour of usage... I have it block from sending data threw firewall, but even if unblock it searchui.exe is running to often.

Seriously would love it if MS would always us to disable searchui.exe all together without killing startmenu search. only thing i found to get around this cortana/searchui.exe bs is to use Win10 enterpise that has noo APP or windows store. if search function with out cortana/searchui.exe in enterprise version so there no reason why it cant be done in home/pro.. I had no problem with cortana/searchui.exe being load when it was suspend majority of the time but now it rarely suspend and eating cpu % way to frequently it doing something i cant fiqure out what it doing.

Very helpful. I had turned off Cortana a while back and decided to turn it back on. Options 1 and 2 above didn't seem to work, but Option 3 followed by a reboot seemed to do the trick.

That first pic in Option 1 doesn't seem to have a direct equivalent in Anniversary Update, though I may be missing it. I don't think disabling "Hey Cortana" is the same thing, right?

Nope, it's no longer valid in that build. I was going to wait until after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update was released to remove it.

Nar, "Hey Cortana" isn't the same to turn off Cortana. *Smile

So it seems to be group policy or bust, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was still some other way given that MS typically has 17 different ways to do anything.
