Windows 10 PC - MS sign in dialog says account does not exist but it does and OneDrive signed in and functional with that account. But cannot login to MS local apps except OneDrive without getting "account does not exist" error. Sign in to online apps and account works without any problem at all using the same username/password combination. So the account definitely exists. Locally though it is unrecognised even though it is set up as a user account on the PC.Wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the PC is in Australia. Wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the PC is in Australia. Maybe the local sign in dialog is checking the US database?

I don't know. It is just very frustrating when you know an account exists, that the log in details you are using are correct, and yet MS is telling you it doesn't.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue would be more than welcome. Thanks.

Creating a MS account without losing Local account

With a Microsoft account you can then use OneDrive and Office Online apps for free. You can also use built-in native Windows apps which require a Microsoft account like Mail, Skype Preview, People, Calendar and download apps from Windows Store.

See steps 3 to 5 in this tutorial to continue using local account as Windows sign-in account even when / if you download apps from store and / or use Windows apps requiring a Microsoft account, to avoid Windows user account converting to Microsoft account: Store - Use when Signing in to Windows 10 with Local Account - Windows 10 Forums

OneDrive and Local Account Windows 10

OneDrive now comes preloaded on a Windows 10.

If I have a Local Account set-up (after switching back from the activation using Microsoft Account) ... and sign in to OneDrive to sync files... Will that turn my Local Account now into a Microsoft account?

I have heard that signing Into the Microsoft Store, for instance , while using a local account, converts your Local Account Into a Microsoft account. That you would need to individually find whatever application you want to install and download it the old
fashioned way to avoid a PC hijacking, the way Microsoft store does to the PC.

So, I am wondering what happens when you sign into the OneDrive app directly from the PC. Does it also hijack the PC into a Microsoft account?

Someone had suggested to delete the preloaded OneDrive app and download OneDrive , so that it behaves like it it on Windows 7.
