I think you may mean step 5 instead then.

Checking the box allows you to be able to select the account you want to auto sign-in to first, then your would uncheck the box.

I usually use control userpasswords2 but decided to try Netplwiz to see if there is a difference ...no there isnt this is what I have that currently works on both computers...maybe I missed a step? let me look again.....

I went into the registry itself to add the DefaultPassword entry as well as set the autologin to "1" there. I was also finally able to get the VMs to auto login as well by using using the multiple options together. That seems to overcome stubborn situations.

    KB,

Nar, step 5 is correct. You may have missed all the sub steps in it.

Steps 5A and 5B are to be able to select the account.

Step 5C is to uncheck the box like you did to set Windows to auto sign-in.

I think I see it now , when i did Netplwiz , the box was already Checked when it opened, I just unselected it and filled in my password as needed twice.

    thanks.

    Hello evildog1, *Smile

It sounds like you may have made a mistake doing OPTION ONE. Please try again being certain that you select the correct account and enter the correct password.

  11. When running into a stubborn issue with a VM I ended up using both options in order to see working results. That involved seeing the new reg entries for the "AutoAdminLogon" as well as the "DefaultPassword", "DefaultDomain", and "DefaultUser" entries illustrated in Option Two along with applying Option One.

Despite the successive upgrades to update since neither desktop, the 10 laptop, and VMs involved as far as both Insider and Redstone 1 Anniversary builds following the two options the automatic logon has been working without problems. But especially where the one or two VMs involved in particular were having the auto sign in problems with MS accounts in use note opting to go with both Option One and Two was what saw working results. I would advise trying them both out there as well and let us know if it takes then. Using both options seems to insure results.

Mine duplicates my account like this but i already found a workaround. select first account and sign in, reboot and problem solved.

This isn't my real name btw

  15. I posted this as one of my problems on another thread and was sent to this thread.

    I tried option 1
The box was checked - I unchecked it.
    I am the only user.
I retyped my password twice like it asked.
When I start the computer up I get prompted for a password.
I double checked that I did everything right but I still get asked for a password.

I just set this new computer up a few days ago. I do not have a Microsoft account and really do not want one so I bypassed that in the set up. Is a Microsoft account necessary to bypass logging in with a password?
