signed in with a temp user after windows update

Hello, I have just updated my windows 10, and when I signed in all my files were lost, so I checked my users and turns out that I am signed in with a temporarily user, and all my files are in my other user. How do I sign back into my old user? I tried entering safe mode and it did not work, I also tried restarting several times but nothing changed, it still takes me to the temp profile.

    :)

  2. Windows Update Signs Admin Account in as Temp User

Hey there Greg! Thank you for coming to help me out. I am going through the steps you have noted for me to try. I'll update you on my findings.

    1) One thing to note now: I restarted my PC and signed back in. When I did that, it opened the Edge "Welcome to Windows. So many possibilities…" page like when starting a fresh account. I did not receive a notification about being signed in with a temp account
or anything. I made sure to check within the notification center to see if there were things I missed.

    2) In the C:\Users directory, I am able to see my user account and have copied all files from that account to another hard drive installed on my PC.

    3) I will be trying this one now!

I am on step 13 of the tenforums version of the help document. When editing the "ProfileImagePath" value data, string is still my User profile location. I hope that isn't a problem. I have completed all the steps and am restarting now.

Restart and back into my account. Thank you Greg!!

  3. Windows Update Signs Admin Account in as Temp User

Windows updated last night without my knowledge. Come back to a blank desktop and no files, or so it appeared. When signing in with the only account created on the computer, all settings are gone, accounts are signed out, and all files from desktop, downloads,
documents, etc. are gone. When looking further into the issue, I noticed that these folders under Quick Access (desktop, downloads, etc.) are stored in the c:/Users/TEMP directory. Knowing that, I can access my files from the correct user directory. However,
I cannot seem to switch to be using that "account" as there are no other accounts on the device and I am logging into the account that I have been using when prompted.

Looking at the update history, the only update that was installed was KB2267602. I attempted to uninstall the update, as recommended in a previous Community post, however that update is not listed under the "Uninstall an update" section of Control Panel.
I then attempted to roll back to the previous version of Windows 10, but the prompt states my PC was updated more than 10 days ago and the option to go back is no longer available. I don't know if that is a bug or you can only go back on major Windows 10 updates.

  4. signed in with a temp user after windows update

    Still not working

    Hi Brink,

I am a Systems Engineer (entry-Level) and I am having this issue. I have followed all the steps that were listed, even created a new user account. This is for a customer. When I followed the steps, before creating a new user, i kept changing the path to point to the correct place. The second time, and following, I ended up getting the 2 SID's, one with the .bak. Followed the steps to delete the regular one and rename the .bak. restarted and still signs in as a temp profile. So I ended up cfreating a new user and still get the same Temp profile issue. Could you suggest something? Thanks.
