  1. Significant CPU temp decrease after updating to Windows 10 1809

Significant CPU temp decrease after updating to Windows 10 1809 today and my CPU temperatures have dropped significantly while idle. The increase started about 2ish months ago and I was baffled. Both my water cooled CPU & GPU (AMD 8120 and GPU R9 290) were running hot. But the CPU was really running hot I mean 27c normal to about 45c regularly at idle and 50ish in games or running video. I have even had a few shutdowns due to heat. Never ever an issue before.

Now, this is new - and it seemed completely off. I check the water coolers, I checked what was running, everything seemed to point to the motherboard? I am diligent about software upgrades and drivers - so that was not it. I checked the computer thoroughly. There did seem to have been some weird conflict with Google Chrome and Windows with GPU usage (a known issue for a bit that seems to have been fixed by Google) a while back. But the CPU temp issue just kept getting worse.

Well today after the update all this is back to normal. Now yes that is great. But what the heck Microsoft? What the heck did you guys have running or not running before this update? I am pretty computer savvy and it is clear that something inside windows back end was doing something that it shouldn't have.

So again what is or was up? What was happening? Did anyone else notice this?

    :)

  2. Microsoft Decreasing Windows 10 Updates Downtime in Fall Creators Update

If you're a standard Windows user, you probably find Windows updates something of a pain - especially when they force you to reboot your PC after they're installed. But imagine you own a business that constantly has its machines up and running, but also requires the latest security upgrades; each minute of downtime for installing such updates is lost revenue. Because of that issue, which companies brought to Microsoft's attention over the years, the company is streamlining its update process, decreasing the amount of update steps that need to be taken offline (which means less time waiting for the machines to become available to use following an update.)

Usually, in updating your Windows system, there are two phases: an "online" phase, in which your PC automatically checks for new updates and actively downloads required system files while allowing you to keep using the computer for various tasks. The second "offline" phase is where the bulk of the work occurs during the update process, and doesn't allow the user to make use of the machine while this process is taking place (read reboot update sequences, for instance.) With Microsoft's latest streamlining process, two steps that previously took place during the "offline" phase will migrate to the online phase. Namely, 1) user content (apps/settings/configurations) back-up and the laying down of new OS files (Windows Image [WIM] process.)

Microsoft's Jason Howard, in a blog post for the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, said that "By moving the old offline portions of the upgrade process to the online phase, upgrades will appear to take longer if you're watching or timing the progress. We didn't want to sacrifice usability for offline time so the upgrade processes are run at a lower priority to provide for best performance."

  3. Cpu threshold temps on windows 10

Hello . When I had updated my windows 8 to windows 10 I started to have gaming issues . I have noticed that whenever my CPU temp reaches 88 degrees , I face an instant 10 fps loss in my game. Is this my threshold temp ? I want to play my game in a constant
fps . I'm sure abt my fps loss, its lost due to my CPU and not GPU. However, I think rams can be a problem ? I'm reaching a 80 - 90 % usage of ram when I'm playing my game " DOTA2 " . What should I do to stay at a constant fps ? Do you think increasing my
CPU threshold temp is useful ? For example , if my threshold temp of CPU was 90 degrees , Will my CPU throttle my performance at 88 degrees ? Or I will start to face a 90 degree temps instead of 88 degrees ?

What should I do ? I want to play my game in a constant fps , I tried everything till now except touching my CPU .. Any help would be really appreciated!

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
