Windows 10: SimCity 4 Dekuxe

Hi, I'm hoping that someone here can help me. I've tried to install SimCity 4 on various Win 10 machines, but can't get it to run.
When I try, I get a msg to run as administrator, but that doesn't help. I tried to install as admin but that doesn't work either.
I see it is listed in the games that run under W10, but I can't do it.
Any ideas out there please. I know SC4 is an old program, but I still like it.

Simcity 4 Deluxe - Windows 10 registry error Text not in database error for the SSP / DAMN

I have Simcity 4 Deluxe installed and I am getting the "text_not_in_database" error for the SSP / DAMN. While troubleshooting I discovered there is no entry in the system registry (regedit).

Any idea why this is occurring and how to fix it? The game loads just fine / no issues.

I have a:

HP M9400F running windows 10

everything is up to date for windows and Simcity 4 Deluxe.

Actually no it did not work. What did work was reducing the items listed from 500 (max) down to 450 and selected newsticker instead of adviser urgent notification.. Program works great now.

 

ehhh I think we're not in the right place to talk about piracy.

 

Hi, thanks for the reply. Mine is a disc based copy with activation code that I entered. I'll investigate the GOG alternative though.

@RoasterMen: It's not piracy if you bought the game, dude. The OP has every right to use any means necessary to play the games he legally obtained. I have hundreds of disc-based games that I paid for, but don't like having to mount ISOs all the time.
@trevtoo: I really do think GOG would be your best option. It's nice to show your support by buying games from companies that sell DRM-free versions. GOG is cheap too.

 

Actually, no.. you don't have "every right" if you live in the US. While it's not "piracy", it is a violation of the DMCA which has a clause about defeating copyright mechanisms (whether you own it or not). This is how people were getting arrested for mods to xbox's and what not that defeated copyright and allowed you to install the game on the hard drive.

Whether or not you believe you should be allowed to use something you paid for doesn't change the fact that there isn't supposed to be talk of anything like this.

 

You realise when you buy software or games, you don't actually own then, you buy a license which entitles you to use them for as long as the developers are happy for you to do so.

 

I'm well aware of what the DMCA says, I also know that you never really own a game, just a license for use. However, with that said, if I pay for something, I expect to be able to *use* it. If something is preventing me from using it, like a SafeDisc/SecuROM restriction in 10, then I will use whatever solution that allows me to play what I've paid for. If I'm not able to use whatever I've bought, then I'm essentially being cheated the right to use the license I've paid for. I am in no way advocating piracy.

DMCA restrictions that outlaw such things as ripping DVDs/BluRays you've bought, removing DRM from songs you've bought, etc, are mostly nonsense if you ask me. That law never should have saw the light of day. It's just one more way for the govt and corporations to strip users of their basic rights.

 

Not agreeing with a law does not make it legal to violate it. "I'm sorry, your honor, but I didn't agree with that law, so I ignored it."
