2023-08 Cumulative Update KB5029244 FAILS

Hi Dalchina Thanks for your reply. I tried to make mult post as thorough as possible at the risk of it being long! I'll give hard disk sentinel a run and report. If it is a failing nvme that kind of helps as I can deal with changing that. For security I have AVG ultimate and malwarebytes pro running. Never been an issue with updates before but more than happy to pause them if it's as simple as that. As you note clean boot was one of my next thoughts, but I'll also run the reset windows update fix you link to. Yes luckily I have a backup strategy with on and off site copies as well as a full boot drive image and a winPE recovery USB. Only issue I have is that if the issue is in the images too as when searching around online for this problem in case others have it there seems to be some reports that it's due to previous updates going wrong / corrupting 'something' but I have no idea what or when so it might already be in my image... It's so strange as apart from the update failing the PC is rock solid. No crashes or issues and I push it hard with rendering so both rapid switching high single core and all core CPU loads and GPU both pinned at 100% and not so much as a wobble. But this update breaks it every time. Yet I do a restore point and it's like it never happened, until it tries the update again. I will report back - - - Updated - - - Hi Again I Ran Hard Disk Sentinel and attach screenshots below of each drive's S.M.A.R.T pages along with one of the main opening page too.

















Doesnt seem to be any issues, nothing that shows up as an alert anyway, some of my older HDD's show some bad block counts or relocated sectors. Both Sabrent drives (so my boot and one other) do show a number of error information log entries but im not sure if that is an issue.. Just as an update. I have tried to use the reset windows update bat file (ran as administrator) at Reset Windows Update in Windows 10 however it fails at stopping the cryptsvc. Says AVG antivirus & AVG tools are using it, I press Y but it just gives another system error 5 has occurred. running Net stop cryptsvc on its own gives an access is denied error... I also went for a clean boot following the instructions at Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts and you know what AVG wouldn't let me disable it at step 5. So even with a clean boot, it wouldn't piss off. Just for my sanity im going to completely uninstall AVG and try a clean boot, followed by running the windows update restet bat file, then going for broke with another in place upgrade and then letting it try the update once more, just in case AVG is causing all this mess.

For 24", I would suggest to go for 1GB especially if you play most of those listed games. 1680x1050 and lower, the 512MB should be fine.

This appears to cause a reboot on random occasions with no warning. I turned off auto reboot to see if that helps.
