Since switching to Windows 11 I have had nothing but problems with my microphone. This is not a **** microphone, it is a Shure USB Mic. The webcam mic works fine. The Shure mic works fine on my windows 10 computer. I have tried everything and this is getting annoying. This is obviously a Windows 11 problem and the fact that they are ignoring it and not fixing it is extremely frustrating.

  2. Usb microphone problem with audio and sound on windows 11

    Hi, Noah 2093

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If you're experiencing issues with your USB microphone on Windows 11, specifically with delayed audio and faulty recording, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Update USB Drivers: Ensure that your USB drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or incompatible USB drivers can cause various connectivity and performance issues. Visit your laptop manufacturer's website or the USB controller manufacturer's website to download and install the latest drivers.
    2. Check USB Port: Try using a different USB port on your laptop. Sometimes, certain USB ports may have compatibility or power delivery issues. Use a USB port directly on your laptop (avoid using USB hubs or extensions) to see if it resolves the problem.
    3. USB A to C Dongle: If your laptop has only USB-C ports and your USB microphone uses a USB-A connector, using a USB A to C dongle may be necessary. However, make sure the dongle is of good quality and supports data transfer and audio capabilities.
    4. Adjust Sound Settings: Check your sound settings in Windows 11 and ensure they are configured correctly for your USB microphone:
      • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Sound settings."
      • Under "Input," select your USB microphone and make sure the volume level is appropriate.
      • Click on "More sound settings" > "Playback" > "Properties" > "Advanced" and check if any enhancements are enabled. Disable any enhancements and test the microphone again.
    5. Disable Exclusive Mode: Some applications or system settings might be using exclusive control over the audio device, causing conflicts and latency issues. To disable exclusive mode:
      • Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Sound settings" > "More sound settings" > "Playback" > "Properties" > "Advanced" and uncheck the box that says "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."
      • Click "Apply" and then "OK."
    6. Consider Windows 10: If you find that your USB microphone worked perfectly on Windows 10 but is having issues on Windows 11, you can consider reverting back to Windows 10 if it's compatible with your laptop. However, note that this should be a last resort option, as Windows 11 generally offers improved features and security.
Remember to test your USB microphone after each step to determine if the issue has been resolved. If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider reaching out to the manufacturer of your USB microphone for further assistance. They may have specific troubleshooting steps or firmware updates available.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Strange problem with USB Microphone

I recently snapped off the microphone-end of the line on my Plantronics headset, so instead of getting a whole new headset, I decided to get a Logitech USB Desktop Microphone.

I have a custom build PC that I had built last October which has a Gigabyte P35-DS3R mobo that has like 8 or 10 USB ports and runs Vista Home Prem. 64-bit. No matter which USB port I plug the mic into, and record myself using Windows Sound Recorder, I get crackling in the background.

I thought it might be the unit so I exchanged it for another and still the same thing.

Then I plugged it into a laptop running Vista Home 32-bit and it works just fine.

I thought it might be something interfering with it, like the wireless mouse or speakers or something, so I brought the laptop to the location of the desktop, and put the mic in the same environment, and it still works fine on the laptop.

I've tried leaving nothing else (USB-based) besides the mic plugged in the desktop and still get crackling.

Obviously all the other devices work just fine (wireless mouse, keyboard, mp3 cable, joystick) with the USB ports, but the mic doesn't.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Windows 11: No Microphones work after switching comms apps.

    Hello Luke Doo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

After fully reading the question you posted here, this seems like a really strange question.

I notice that you seem to find that the problem will be fixed after restarting the computer, which usually means:

    1. Reload the driver.
    2. Restart the microphone device.
    3. The computer detects and scans for hardware changes.

So, for your question, I suggest you try the following steps:

    1. Try updating your audio driver.

You can find the audio device in the Device Manager and update the driver, or go directly to the manufacturer's website for your computer, download the audio driver for your device, and then reinstall it.

    2. Make sure your communication application has permission to use the microphone, please refer to the following link for details:

Fix microphone problems - Microsoft Support

    3. Check the status of the microphone device in Device Manager.

According to your description, the microphone will not work when switching the communication application, then at this time in the device Manager, please open the "Audio input and Output", and confirm that the microphone device you are using can be displayed here, and confirm that its status has changed to "Disabled device".

If so, after right-clicking on it and selecting "Start Device", your microphone should be able to work again.

But if it appears to be working fine in the list, but not available in the communication app, right click on it and click "Uninstall Device." After you have done this, click "Scan for hardware changes" and your microphone device should reappear in the list and work properly.
