Windows 10: Single click option only with point to select?

Before I reset my pc, I was able to single click on a file or folder to open it, and there was no hover/select. Now that I've reset it, I can't get rid of the hover/select unless I switch to double click.Why is this, and can it be fixed?Thank you

Enable the single click option, then go to View tab > and check the option:

"Use check boxes to select items"

Dear community,

I am struggling quite a bit to get the Hover-To-Select to work while using Single-Click Mode.

I have it working on a Dell Latitude 5300 and a MSI GE67. Yet it does not seem to work on the HP EliteBook.

I have already looked up some information, and I can already say the following:

- It has nothing to do with the option "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse" in the Ease of Access Center
(this is off on all the laptops)

- "Single-click to open an item (point to select)" is active on all 3 laptops with the sub option "Underline icon titles only when I point at them" (not that this option should affect the Point-to-Select feature)

- Windows version does not seem to matter, yet the versions are 1809 (MSI and HP) and 1909 (Dell)

- Following the advice in the community question Turn off "hover to select" in Windows 10
to check the touchpad additional driver settings, this would not help: the Dell does not have any additional settings yet the feature works fine, whilst the MSI does have additional driver settings but none that allows to enable/disable Point-to-Select.

- Switching back to "Double-click", reboot, switch again to "Single-click" and another reboot did not fix the issue.

I have found some information about modifying registry values applied to
the same feature but on Windows 7. However, I am trying to avoid touching the registry at all.

Any advice or other ideas on how to get the "Point-to-Select" feature working?
