How can I create PDFs with Sitka fonts in Windows 11?

You say there is no supported way. Okay, I understand that. But why did you degrade the usefulness of these fonts? I spent at least 10 hours today finding a suitable substitute font, revising and testing templates, and modifying documents in my current project to use the new font instead of the Sitka fonts. Why shop these fonts if they can only be used on screen or with a local printer? Millions of people use Word for much more than that.

It occurs to me I could probably uninstall or delete the existing variable fonts and install, instead, the Windows 10 fonts. Though you say it's not supported, would it work? And if it didn't work, how would I get the original fonts back -- through the SFC utility? I still have many other projects that use the Sitka files in PDFs and these I can no loner update without major headaches, so it would be preferable to find a workaround that uses the Windows 10 font files.

I will, as you suggest, post on the Hub, but I'll be shocked if I get a direct response.

 

How can I create PDFs with Sitka fonts in Windows 11?

I use Sitka Display for all my documents. Under Windows 10, I can create PDFs that are visually identical to their Word file sources. Under Windows 11, the same files, when exported to PDF, do not display correctly. The displayed text is thicker, letters are touching, and depending on how I create the PDF, sometimes the wrong Sitka variant is embedded, even if I tell the PDF driver and the Word Save options to embed this font.

Apparently this is a Windows 11 issue others have noticed, but I have yet to find a workaround. I still have a Windows 10 machine. Is there a way to install the Windows 10 fonts on the Windows 11 machine, perhaps with a slightly different name so that there isn't a clash with the default font files? Here's a link to another person with the same problem who concluded he must go back to Windows 10. That's not an option for me because this is a new computer.

• Now, drag and drop the downloaded fonts in the font’s folder.
