Windows 10: Skype integration for Slack now available for preview

At Skype, we are committed to breaking down communication barriers and getting the world talking. This is why we make Skype available on multiple platforms and continue to explore more ways to help you stay connected. Today we’re releasing a preview version of Skype integration for Slack that lets teams on Slack easily make a Skype voice or video call and reach conclusions faster.

If your team uses Slack, a new choice of real-time communication is available beginning today. You can now access the familiar and trusted voice and video calling you’ve grown to depend on with Skype, right from within Slack. Setting up the integration is easy – simply visit the Skype integration for Slack product page, and click on the Add to Slack button to complete the setup.

Once the Skype integration has been configured, anyone on the Slack team can start a Skype call from a computer. Just type “/skype” into the chat and when the call is set up, a join link will appear. Whether your team members use Slack on the web, Windows, Mac, iOS or Android, you’ll receive a Slack notification that a Skype call has started, so no one will ever miss a call again. Whenever you want to start a new call, just type “/skype” into the chat again which will set up a new call for others to join.

To join a Skype call, all you need on the desktop is a web browser, or you can get the Skype mobile apps to join from your smartphone. Anyone can join as a guest from a computer, or sign in with a Microsoft account or Skype Name. Messaging app Windows 10 and attachments

I think this is now obsolete, since with today's anniversary update, the messaging portion of Skype has been removed from the Messaging app on W10 and now is part of Skype Preview UWP app. This thread is now moot.

The messaging integration was confusing (with users having to switch between Skype Video, Skype app and Messaging app) and I'm glad they went back to a single dedicated app.

The UWP app does not have the issue with attachments anymore. Please upgrade to the Anniversary Update, get the Skype Preview UWP app and you will be good to go. That's what I did. Happy.
