Windows 10: Sleep Issue with New Windows 10 Machine

Recently, my brother got a new Windows 10 laptop. It's having the same problem that a lot of other W 10 machines seem to be having when he tries to put it into sleep mode. Namely, it will go into sleep mode, but the fan blows crazily, and when he presses a key or moves the mouse to try and wake it up, the lights will come on, but the screen will stay dark. The whole computer then locks up, and he has to do a hard reset in order to use it again.

From what I've seen, it seems like the Intel management engine could be the cause of the problem, since the drivers on the computer for the management engine are somewhere in the 11's. I've tried to install version 9 of the management engine drivers, which seems like a good fix, but I get a pop up saying that the computer is not compatible for version 9 drivers. I suspect this might be due to the fact that it shipped from the factory with version 11.

Any thoughts?

Sleepy time not so good

Picture a hamster on a wheel.

I just purchased a new Toshiba Satellite c7250 with Windows 10 installed.

After a returned a the new Toshiba Satellite c7250 with Windows 10 installed that was giving me sleep mode issues.

Toshiba was no help and only wanted to move me to a 'Level 2' phone technical support for more $, since their 'Level 1'

technician couldn't fix the machine over the phone but their 'Level 2' could with a credit card number / $149.00 charge sign-up for Toshiba technical 'bundled support'.

The computer was 13 days new and had been giving me sleep mode issues constantly.

NOW... the new machine is experiencing the same thing. All setting are for 20 minutes, and they and I have even made a 'custom plan/ set to 'never' sleep.

If I pause for even a few minutes, the sleep mode kicks in.

Please help free me from this hamster wheel of writing and writing and tasking so my machine doesn't go into sleep mode!

Having issues with computer going into "sleep mode" after 2-3 minutes even though the settings are set to "never"

My computer was upgraded from Windows 7 to 10. The sleep settings have been set to "never" (also have tried other settings) and after 2-3 minutes the computer goes into "sleep mode".

I had another machine that had the issue, but the system was already Windows 10, but then he went through a couple of windows 8.1 upgrades and then issue was gone. However, I brought that machine back, wasn't any faster than my other machine.

 

What brand / model laptop?

 

Whoops, yeah, that would be helpful.

It's an HP Envy with a core i7 processor and a Nvidia GTX graphics card.
