Sleep mode closing all my apps, when waking up the machine.

Hello. I noticed yesterday , that when i resume from the sleep state, all my opened apps are gone. They don't stay in the Ram, so when the machine wakes up, i have to reopen everything.
Also , when i wake up my laptop, it takes a lot more, like it was shutted down, not put to sleep.

I tried to fix it myself, so i uninstalled everything i installed recently, updated all the drivers and so on. But still nothing. So I reinstalled Windows again, erasing my C: partition. After a little set up, i tried the sleep mode again...and the problem still persists. I had no sleep problems before yesterday.

So i am thinking this may be a Windows problem...or a hardware problem.

Thanks for your attention, and I waiting for a reply.

    I have an Asus System Model S551LN, with Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210U CPU , NVIDIA GeForce 840M, 8gb ram.

    :)

Windows 10 randomly wakes up from hibernate with source unkown

I feel your frustration, and i may have your solution. I've been dealing with this very issue from the first day i upgraded to Windows 10, whereas the same machine exhibited no such behavior when running Windows 8.1. My actions and observations are almost
100% consistent with the ones i've read in this thread:

    the symptoms:

    - after i put the machine to sleep via the methods configured for sleep mode (i.e., closing the lid, pressing the power button or even from the Start menu), it wakes up by itself a few hours later

    - once it wakes up (i'm usually fast asleep), it does not go back to sleep, as it is configured to do after a period of inactivity

    my settings/observations:

    - when the lid is closed or the power button pressed, the machine is set to "sleep" (not "hibernate", which is why i said "almost 100% consistent"; more on this in a moment)

    - all devices which can wake-up the machine have been disabled from doing so in Device Manager

    - all USB devices have been unplugged before entering sleep mode

    - powercfg queries confirm there are no wake_armed triggers

    - powercfg also shows UNKNOWN as the source of the last wake-up after the machine wakes up by itself

    - Event Viewer shows "Browser has forced an election on network ... because a master browser was stopped" as the first event after the machine enters sleep mode

NOTE: all of this happens only when the machine is on AC power; when unplugged, the machine remains sleeping, as expected

I've researched this problem extensively for the past few months since upgrading to Windows 10. I've tried EVERYTHING i've read in this forum and elsewhere. I've even dealt with Microsoft Answer desk multiple times and learned NOTHING. Their solution was
to power-down instead of putting the machine to sleep. Instead of going through my settings and Event Viewer in order to validate my observations and acknowledge this was a real issue, they requested to remotely control my computer only so they can change
settings in control panel to power-down when the lid is closed or power button pressed. How about that?

Alas, i did not post this message to air my complaints about how Microsoft has handled this issue. Instead, i was hoping to help others experiencing the same issue. The only solution that has been remotely successful is the following: instead of "sleep",
set the machine to "hibernate" when the lid is closed (and/or when the power button is pressed). I tried that last night just to humor myself, and it apparently worked.

I realize there's a difference between "sleep" and "hibernate". In that sense, my solution is not really a solution. However, since hibernation serves the same purposes for me as does sleep, i'll be content with this solution until Microsoft addresses it
    more formally.

    Good luck to all.

I think we have the exact same problem. My computer restarts when waking up the machine from sleep/hibernation.
You did a complete wipe and that didn't help? I was about to do that, but I'm thinking it's a hardware issue now. I also have an ASUS. You have a good video card though, I have the cheap genric intel.

    • Have you updated your video drivers?
    • Checked if BIOS is up to date?

Those are the two most common responses I've seen for similar problems. I've done both and more. So I hope to find some other suggestions.

I'm glad I didn't do the whole reinstall yet, sounds like it would have been a waste of time and energy.
    - Have you done SFC /SCANNOW? No problems on my end. Shouldn't with clean install.

**I just noticed a new problem/clue. Can you turn your screen off (my computer is fn+F7) and have it come back on? Not sleep, but just off. Mine shows a black screen, and I have to restart with the power button. So it's something with the monitor/graphics card coming back on. Blank screen saver is OK, but not when the monitor off.
I'm also going to hook up my PC to TV to see if it projects and then works after disconnection.

Any chance you have the same problem?
I'm going to contact ASUS about it, hopefully they have some advice. I'll update my status.

Reviving this old thread... I have the same problem: all the apps I had open before my laptop sleeps (on its own schedule, not by my direct action) seem to be forced to quit. It started about two weeks ago. I haven't yet had the chance to attempt to troubleshoot it, or do any deep investigation. I'm wondering if a solution was found?
